UPS system for home theater???

Just wondering if any of you use a UPS system for their gear? I'm thinking about one of these

http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-Sma...5075898&sr=8-3

I know it doesn't keep you going for long, especially with a large plasma with receiver and all that, but at least you don't screw up your settings or your recordings.

What do you guys have?

I use this:

You can get it for $250 on Newegg.com.

Never mind me. I thought you were talking about power conditioners.

Nice

I'd get the Belkin PureAV™ Home Theater Battery Backup with AVR Technology to go alone with it.

$131 here http://www.pcrush.com/prodspec.asp?r...&wcw:referrer=

I was just going to post this link in a new thread, but I'll do it here. WOOT.com has a power conditioner for sale today for $129 Plus $5 shipping. I was going to post the link to the comments from the people on woot. I always knew they were annoying, but didn't realize how stupid:

Everyone giving their info on why you don't need a UPS on a home theater cause the power goes out you can't watch tv anyway in the limited time. The whole purpose is to a) protected against spikes in power b) clean up the power which in turn can clean up your image on your digital tv.

The answer is that it can clean up your picture, but not always. It is good to get some sort of protection, and I'd recommend a power conditioner to a regular UPS. Either way, having the extra protection against possible power spikes is an excellent idea.

As much as I'm not a fan of Monster Cable marketing. They make some decent product. Not sure what your price range is:

$300

I think the belkin units are a better deal, not to mention better looking.

I use a monster cable conditioner, it's fine, but unexciting.

should I get getting both a power conditioner AND a UPS?

doesn't that Belkin PureAV unit do both? I suppose a dedicated conditioner is better...

Yea that belkin does both. Very good value for the money. But I'm not sure how effective it is. I would get Panamax if your budget allow.

Whatever you get make sure that it can produce a clean sine wave.

For example, an APC SmartUPS can, an APC BackUPS can not.

I have a APC Backup ES 500W or something like that. I plug my VCR and my DVR to the thing. So if the power goes out, I don't have to re-set the clock and the timer.

Don't cringe, but I use an older APC BackUPS Office 500 (BF500, I think was the model number). Basically, I use something like that to protect the amp, the dvd player, any tape players, from power spikes, and transient blackouts. I don't need to protect the TV, in my view; I'll get another if the power line is struck by lightning. But when spinning discs, and tracking tapes, I don't want a blackout to cause glitches. I'd do the same for a DVR.

I'm not sure I buy into the hype that I need a super-mega-sophisticated power conditioner and battery system to protect my $600 hi-fi. Maybe when I upgrade to an LCD HDTV.

how do joule ratings relate to the type of equipment hooked up? How do you go about purchasing a product in regards to joule rating?

UPDATE:

So I got that Belkin PureAV UPS and noticed a couple of interesting things...

first off, i have a 55" plasma, comcast dvr, receiver, xbox 360, modem and router hooked up to the UPS portion of the Belkin

1. if i have the tv and the 360 on together, it immediately says i'm overloading the unit and the audible alarm is blazing. the tv and cable box (dvr) shows a 50-67% load. wtf? is this Belkin too small to handle the draw?

2. i ran my cable from the wall to the unit and from the unit to my modem and noticed that it cut my download speed from 7mb down to around 1.5mb. since then i have bypassed the Belkin and the speed is up again. upload speed was not effected
