Plasma glare sucks:(
So my new panasnic plasma totally kicks ass,....when its dark. Otherwise I get alot of reflection from windows in the room and glare from my recessed lighting ect. Basically the plasma glass is like a mirror.
From what I have read, plasma has it all over lcd in terms of deep blacks, angled viewing, and color accuracy. But this glare is killing me. What should I do? Exchange the TV or try and block out the outside light with blinds?

If you have that much light coming through you're going to get glares with both plasma and LCD.. and with DLP the screen will get washed out also... so only choice is to get some blinds.
FYI, all we have is wood blinds on all the windows and our plasma is fine. In our great room we have the two huge paladium windows plus two sets of french doors with no blinds... and the DLP is fine except in the morning when the light shines through those areas.

I am in the same position. I am considering moving my existing TV into the basement and picking up a new TV.
However, as much as I'm sold on plasma technology, I will most likely go to with a flat screen LCD (likely the Samsung 40" 1080p model) due to the 18, yes 18, windows in my family room.
The glare with a plasma would make it unwatchable.
My Dad was making comments about glare on his Pioneer plasma, but eliminated it through some updated blinds and redoing some lighting.

We had custom plantation shutters done on the first row of windows in our 2 story great room. While that does not take care of 100% of the glare issues, it leaves only a half hour or so of the afternoon when the sun shines directly in and makes watching tv difficult. Even with that though, I love my plasma.....

In any case, I've decided to invest in some good window covering and keep the plasma. I went and looked at some LCD's, and while the latest generation LCD'shave gotten alot better, they just arent in the same league, picture quality wise, as the plasmas. At night, when the lights are dimmed, and I am upconverting a DVD to 720p or 1080i, the thing looks fuckn INCREDIBLE..

yea i dont know how much it exactly costed, but i wasnt too much, cause my dad waited around for a long time to find a good/decent TV at a good price, if there was a better TV for a cheaper price he wouldve been all over that.

my condo was a fishbowl, and i never really had glare problems with my plasma. on bright days, or during bad hours, i'd turn on the high contrast mode though

My Panny has anti-glare technology built in. I dont know how good it is compared to the pioneer, but the Pioneers are alot more expensive from what I saw.
At the end of the day, its no worse (or perhaps even a bit better) than a CRT

My Panasonic plasma is directly across the room from a six by ten foot window. At first the glare drove me nuts but after the first week I stopped noticing it entirely-I suppose the brain just adjusts like it does to odors and other things. I'm not at all sorry I got the tv, for the price Panny plasmas just can't be beat.
