Paradigm Speakers?

Anyone using Paradigm speakers for their home theater systems? Which ones are you using? How do you like them?

I had Studio 40s for the front, Studio Center Channel, Studio ADPs for sides and Studio 20s in the rear for a 7.1 setup. They were very dynamic and could play loud without strain if you wanted them to.

For me, they sounded better in the showroom than in my house. I needed massive amounts of room treatments to tame the brightness of these speakers. Turning down the treble didn't help. After about 1 hour of movie watching, my ears hurt. I let them break in continously for days when I was at work and no one was home.

My room was about 14'x22'. Running Harmon Kardon receiver and Parasound Amplifier.

I had to get rid of them.

I'm just one data point and I'm sure there are many out there who own these and enjoy them. They just weren't for me.

I have old school paradigms (10 yrs old) but they rock. Made in so you know they have to be good. If you read any home theater mags, they normally say good things about paradigms.

^ Missed the 5 minute cut-off to edit ... sorry to hear that AChangeofSeasons had a bad experience.

Also have coupled my Paradigms with a Yamaha RX-V1200 (good receiver for 2001). Maybe that was a difference?

I have heard the Paradigm Monitor series (9s I think it was) in someone's house and those sounded really good for music...for the price.

Paradigm is a good speaker company, just didn't work out for me.

I have mini monitors for my front L/R and then ADM 200's (I think...they're inwalls) for the 4 surrounds. Personally, I love them....I searched high and low for speakers and was willing to spend considerably more than what I did. I just fell in love with my Mini's and then got their in-wall brothers to fill out my room (WAF). I run them off of a Yammy 1400 (I'm assuming a replacement for the 1200). I do have a monster sub (Hsu STF-3) since these mini's don't have a ton of low range for a theater application

I don't find them bright, but then again I do like treble/brightness. As commented above, we're all different in tastes....

Good luck!!!

I was planning on using everything from the Signature Series line. S4's for the fronts,C3 for the center,Signature ADP's for surrounds. I heard that they are changing things around a bit.If they are,I will wait to see what they are coming out with. I have the Sony KDSR60XBR1,Arcam AVR 350,and I use my PS3 for my dvd player.

^ Next time I go into an audiophile store ... I will check out the Signature Series line. My cousin who is an audiophile (works as a sound / elec engineer for Creative Labs in Singapore -- makers of SoundBlaster stuff) said he likes the Paradigm line of speakers.

Mind you ... I haven't talked to him about speakers since 2001 (when I bought my Yammy receiver) ... so things may have changed. Will have to hear it for myself to reserve any (unbiased) comment.

But ... usually Paradigms are a good value (ie like Honda).

PS I think Yamaha updates their line of receivers every year ... they change their model numbers by increments of 100 (from what I've noticed) ... so a 1200 is 2 model yrs "older" than a 1400.

I have studio 20 V.3's for my mains and after 1 year of break in/use I absolutely love them!
See review here http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/p...tudio20_v3.htm

I have a studio CC470 v.3 for my center & I am still blown away by the accuracy and quality of sound reproduction from this speaker. (of course it matches almost perfectly with my 20’s)

I have a seismic 10" sub (the smallest of the seismic line) and I am more than satisfied with it thus far.

My room is about 18 feet deep & 17 feet wide but I have hardwoods & one of the sides is open to the kitchen/dining area so my area is definitely not optimal for prime listening conditions or HT use. The speakers are forgiving enough to make this area work and I cannot say enough good things about them.

The speakers are driven by a Yamaha HTR 5760 series receiver which claims to put out 110 watts /channel. I seriously doubt this to be accurate; however, I am not at all disappointed in the sound reproduction or the accuracy of my gear. Of course I would like to upgrade my receiver/amp but for now, it’s a very good combo that will do the trick for several years. I highly recommend the Paradigm studio line over the Reference line. I auditioned the Reference 100’s or whatever the “high end” Reference product was and it was absolutely night & day compared to the Studio line up. At the end of the day though, it’s like others have said –it comes down to what you like.

Good luck with your new addiction!
