Need Your Help Choosing Between 2 TV's
My g/f and I decided that for our 6 yr anniversary we wouldn't buy each other anything, rather buy a nice TV together. We're looking at buying our first house soon (1 year), so this will be our bedroom TV when that happens, for now, it'll replace the 27" big boy I have in my room. So were looking for a good product at a good price.
Found that these Toshiba Regza's have GREAT reviews pretty much on every website. The two were are lookin at seem to only have 2 small difference.
The 46" is what it is for $999 @ CompUSA (couple hundred more everywhere else).
The 42" is the same, but adds Colorburst technology (uses 90% of available colors vs. 72%, so it says), and has a 120Hz vs 60Hz. Now I noticed some of the Sony Bravias even use 60Hz, so maybe it's not so bad.
What do you guys think. Here's the links to them on CompUSA.

Toshiba 42XV540U Regza - 42"
http://www.compusa.com/applications/...466&CatId=3650
TIA for any replies.
Any other TV's to look at in the range?

He shouldn't get it just because it is bigger. If he is going to watch any sports or fast moving action, then he absolutely should get the set that has 120 Hz.

I actually got a free 32" Regza from an old couple whose house was hit by lightening. They decided to just buy a new tv rather then fix this one that is not covered against lightening strikes. The component inputs were fried, color is all off, but the HDMI inputs work fine. To tell you the truth, I think the picture is better then most of the Bravias I see.

Pioneer is the best, the deepest black levels I have ever seen, but they are VERY expensive (you get what you pay for). For best value, my personal favorite is Panasonic, they have put more R&D money into developing their plasma's than any other company and it shows, the picture is fantastic...

Thanks for the inputs guys.
Costco has some good promotions too on the Regza...even the top model ones.

Don't know what to do. This TV is a replacement of a 27" "BIG" tv, so anything is an upgrade I guess...but for $1,000 plus, would like to get something good, even though its not entirely 100% important to have the best TV.

I believe Sears has a 50" Panasonic 720P plasma for about $1000 or lower. My mom has it but I can't give a review since she only has SD components.
You didn't give your idea of a TV that you wanted. You say best but what is the best? Size, PQ, what do you plan to add? Receiver? BD Player?

I didnt see the price of the 42". I think the best comparison would be side by side in the store to actually see if you can notice the difference with that color burst as well as the other specs. Cause there are a bunch of tv's that claim to do this and that but then when you're in the store comparing you cant even tell the difference.

Forget all other TVs - NOTHING compares to the Toshiba Regza for gaming, movies & regular tv viewing. I suggest getting the Regza - I bought the 52" earlier in the summer and its amazing!

Quality > Quantity (Size)
The smaller TV has extra features and 120 Hz. Not to mention, this will be going in a bedroom. Of course, you don't know how big your master bedroom is going to be now, but a 42" would be more than sufficient even for a relatively large bedroom.

Alright dude, I can't hold back anymore. This is at least the third thread you have now stated this garbage. The Toshiba tv is at best a lower/mid level tv. It has average picture quality at best, sub par speakers, and nothing to offer over competitors sets. The only thing I can say at all is they have a pretty clean look as far as the appearence of the set. I don't mind people typically thinking their set is the best out there, but lately every tom, dick, and harry thinks they have the latest and greatest. Combine that with the fact that you keep telling everyone there is nothing better, well it's just enough. Do me a favor, take your tv to a store, someones house, shit a bar, I don't care where, but anywhere that you can set it up next to a Pioneer plasma, and then come back and tell me what you think of your Regza. The Pioneer is like looking at an open window, whereas your Regza in comparison will be like looking through a closed window smeared with vasoline. Your tv is what it is, and nothing more.

LOL. You ask for opinions and your getting all emotional - and if I'm not mistaken weren't you looking into the Regza line? It's the best TV out there for the money period, and its not my only LCD that i HAVE in the house, I also have a LG and Bravia, compare to those, the Regza can't be touched, the only thing I'll say is better than the Regza is the Sharp line, but then again...who am I...i just have a regza that i think is bad ass oh well

I'd put the Sharp over the Toshiba any day...hell I'll put almost any company over Toshiba. But Sharp still aint high on the list of who makes the best LCD sets.
Do yourself a favor and just stay out of the home theater fourms.

Yes I'm stupid.
I wish I had been smart enough to make "starchyld" my internet handle. And I wish I was smart to run around a single forum and spout off how good of a tv a toshiba is. And even smarter to address my expertise by stating "because I worked at best buy"
I propose a name change for you.....Hoser

Sony's XBR line is still very highly rated.
Sharp...if only their picture was true to their name.
Pioneer's accolades come from their plasmas, which isnt what the argument is about.
Seriously, quit be a fucking retard.

Hardly scientific but my buddy has two Aquo's. A 2 or 3 year old 720P and a fairly new 1080P. One 37 and one 42. Neither look that great to me.
Until 2001AudiS4 recently started posting again, I honestly thought Plasma more or less lost out to LCD and was dying off. Interesting stuff.

I guess I should thank Best Buy for employing numbnuts like this. It REALLY helps make my job easier. Sharp better then Pioneer Holy shit that had me rolling. And did I read right, did you say that the Bravia is Sony's cheaper series? Woah. What do you do for a living now, drive the short bus? Or are you still a passenger?
