my sammy is crackling...

i bought this tv http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1138083934070 before christmas and love it...i noticed whenever i 1st turn it on..it makes a crackling sound for about 15-20 seconds...then it goes away...it happens everytime i turn it on...well...2 weeks ago..when i turn the tv on..there was no sound(volume)...but the volume was up though...i turned the tv off for a few seconds then turn it back on and the volume would come back...sometimes it took me 3-4 tries before the sound came back...
i returned the tv last night at BB in exchange for a brand new one(same exact tv)...this morning when i turned it on....it made the crackling sound again...but there was sound....i'm worried that the sound(volume) will go away again after a few weeks...
is the crackling normal on this model or has someone with the same tv noticed the crackling? the crackling seems to come from the bottom right corner in the back of the tv...

I have the LN-S4095 with no crackling sounds, but I am hooked up to a receiver. (Best Buy is expensive, ouch). You can try here:

You do have to register but it may be worth it.

I have the same experience with my 36 inch Sony so i upgraded to this model

Mitsu 52 inch My wife and I never really found out what the crackling noise was so we put the TV in the basement family room where it won't be used too often.

Clicks are relays and okay.
Crackling bad. Do you perhaps have a problem with the power in which you are feeding the TV?

now that you mentioned it...i'm not sure wether the sound is a crackling or clicking sound...it's hard to describe but as i mentioned before..it only does it for a few seconds when i first turn the tv on...on the 1st tv the volume would be gone at times then come back after turning it off and then back on...i'm just scared it might happen again with this replacement tv...since it does the cracking/clicking sound at start up...i wonder if it's common and just a coincidence that the other tv's sound screwed up?
btw...i have the tv plugged in straight into the wall(for now) and only have an hd antenna hooked to it...would a surge protector help? i am getting one..just haven't decided which one to get...

Any name brand surge protector is better than straight to the wall - I have a Belkin and a Monster I got on sale that have those money-back guarantees. The warm-up clicking upon start-up happens once in a great while for me on my Sammy. And it's okay according to the forums.

This may be adding to the problem. Like CLSter said any surge protector is better then going directly into the wall. Not only are you at risk of blowing out your equipment, but the electricity from the wall is usually "dirty" which causes interference in picture and sound. While some TVs may be OK, others may not. Different sets and technologies will be more or less sensative to this interference. Since it sounds like this is replacement TV which is having the same problems as the other set the only common factor is the way they're hooked up... so you may want to drop $50 on a decent surge protector. Even something from Wal-Mart that has at least a 2000 joules protection rating would be better then plugging it into the wall...

2000 is a general number. The higher the better, but typically what you find in CC or BB is usually 2100 or higher.

The one I have is linked below. Nothing fancy... but 2655 joules protection, and even has a $250k warranty (although I've never read the fine print )... but it's been fine so far and we've had it for a while. Again, it's nothing special but it offers just as much, if not more protection then the Monster stuff that BB or CC sells and it's much cheaper. So I went this route. Next step will be a power conditioner... but for now... this has been working fine.

Something like this may be what you're looking for also. Same price as the one I linked above but has more protection and filters the electricity a bit...

thanks mr.bean...i'm gonna grab that one from bestbuy sometime this week...i was also told that a good surge protector will somewhat improve picture quality vs. plugging it direct to the wall...

^ Yup, especially one like the one I linked above from Best Buy b/c that one has some built-in conditioning which will clean the signals... both audio and video...

Mine doesn't crackle but it does click a few times when I turn it on. Like it's trying to find the right signal.

BTW, as far as the crackling goes... it appears as if that set is 720p native.... so you may want to ensure your cable or satellite box is outputting 720p which will help it to "find the signal" quicker.

If you do not have a set-top box... then it may just be the TV warming up and finding the signal as others mentioned above.

FYI, I bought that Acoustic Research surge protector today. Had about $35 in reward zone certificates plus returned something I got for my birthday for $30 so I scooped that up along with Apollo 13 for the HD-DVD.

I'm going to move the Belkin upstairs to the bonus room which acts as the theater since that setup isn't used as much...
