monoprice hdmi - wire size?

After reading all the posts saying monoprice.com was the way to go for getting hdmi cables, I've decided to make a purchase.

My question is what wire size (diameter) is good / what are the differences in sizes about?

http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...d=10240&style=

They have 22, 24, 26, and 28 gauge wires for sale. It seems like the 28 gauge is what I want since they come in the smaller sizes. But how come there are the different sizes/why would you use one over the other?

Thicker cables. Don't get cheap when it's only $20.

it depends ont he size of the run, but i wouldnt go thinner then 26AWG.

if youre going with a cable greater then like 8 feet, you want 24AWG minimum. 20 feet, id go 22AWG.

You can also check firefold.com. Same supplier as Monoprice, so the prices are just as good... sometimes better...

Just curious and a slight bit off-topic but should I get one of the aftermarket cables if I am already using the HDMI cable that came with Harmon Kardon DVD player? Will there be any sort of difference? It is only a 4 footer. And could the cable be the reason I get purple flashes whenever 1080i is selected using the DVD player?

nope. at 4-ft, any hdmi cable is pretty much just an hdmi cable.

As soopa said... nope... at that length, you're good.

What is likely causing the flashes is that your TV is likely a 720p native set. So when receiving a 1080i signal, the TV is flashing as it synchs and converts the signal. This happened to me as well when our cable box was set to output 1080i. Once we changed it to 720p to match the TV's native resolution it went away completely.

its hard to say as it depends alot on whats feeding the wire, what outside factors are interfering with it, and even the angles at which the wire is bent along the run.

like i said earlier though, in general most say 8ft+ requires 24AWG or less. but it all depends on your installations conditions.

in general though, digital cabling is much more forgiving than analog. there's not really a gray area. either it works great or it doesn't work for shit.

I assume that was a 10 (binary) joke? If not, it's a pretty good one.

Hrmmmm it's a Samsung 4095D a 1080P LCD set. I bet it has to do with the damn DVD player.

^ Still could be the TV set doing the converting. We also have a 61" Sammy DLP 1080p and the same thing happened with the STB on that set as well. Set to box output 1080i, the TV flickered, set to output 720p... perfect.
