Talking Made my first "big" purchase!

I've been looking at HDTV's for quite a while now, and almost pulled the trigger on the 50" Samsung HLT5076S Slim DLP during that Xbox 360 deal that Best Buy had a little while back. However, I decided against it due to the fact that it wasn't the LED model. In addition, I realized that I most likely would want to wall mount my first HDTV. So that idea went out the window. Moving on, last night I was browsing slickdeals, and came across a truly "slick" deal. Apparently Circuit City was having a sale on the new 42" Sharp AQUOS LC42D64U 1080P LCD. Mind you, it has a list price of $1799. Anyways, I checked the forum section out, read up on it, and supposedly it must have been a price mistake, as the sale should have been for the previous model LC42D62U. Long story short, I went to my local Circuit City, and they had one available, but listing for the $1799 (or maybe $1699 I don't remember). I told them to check their online price, which had it listed on sale for $1199, and they gladly matched it. In addition, I printed up a 10% coupon from AAA for Circuit City, and it brought the price down to $1079, coming to $1169 OTD!! I also signed up for their credit card and got 18 months no interest (which I plan on paying off much sooner than that anyway), and walked out a happy camper. The only thing holding me back was my desire for a 47", but the prices of those are near the $2k mark, which is too high for me. I plan on moving out to my own place within the next month or two, so we'll see how it fits. It was definitely an impulse buy, but I think I made a great choice. Next up, an Xbox 360, HDDVD drive for the 360, and set up my Klipsch 5.1, and we're golden baby!

`John

Thanks I'll definitely post pics of it once it's up and running, but that won't be for a little bit.

thats a sweet find.

a note about the CC credit card though (because I got one when I got my laptop)...the no interest does not apply to open box items that are discounted, or any other promotional items i.e. something thats on sale or has a MIR (mail in rebate). I was getting credit card bills for the entire amount of the laptop and this is the excuse they gave me, sorta wack, so make sure you check it out. At any rate, their membership point system is sweet!

that's about what i paid for my 40" sammy last x-mas, great set, and picked up a 23" for the bedroom a couple months ago also.

when we buy our next house in a couple years we will be getting hopefully a 50+" depending on price and size of the living room.

a vizio would be nice for the price but samsung or panasonic would be a safer bet for me

you can get no interest financing on open boxes, it does apply to sale items as well....I've bought thousands of dollars of open box and financed an open box laptop and an open box tv on it...

The thing is you have to make sure the person checkin you out keys in the no interest. If if dont want the no interest u can get the 5% rewards points which adds up quick on purchases like tvs... and you claim it for gift cards whenever you want.

Well, I finally got around to getting HD added to my DirecTV plan, and I absolutely LOVE it!! All I need now is an HD-DVD or BluRay player and I'm set! This TV is incredible, and I'm so happy about my purchase, with zero regrets. I highly recommend !! Here are a few pics that I took of it on my cell phone, so sorry for the poor quality.

I thought it was funny that the Aquos commercial came up while I was taking pics

Wow, OK thanks S4. I, and all my friends and family that have seen my TV think it looks fantastic. When I compared it to the Sony and Samsung, they all looked just as good. No need to rain on my parade

That's all that matters. I see many tv's and know which have the better image quality. With that said, it doesn't matter. How you view the set that you own is what matters. As long as you like it, then that is great. Just make sure you get a good wall mounting bracket. The holes on the tv to mount the bracket are very close together on that set which can cause it to be a bit unstable if you use the wrong bracket. Just make sure what you get has a good locking mechanism to lock the tv in place.

So do you really think it's a so-so set? Obviously being a standard consumer I won't know the difference. As you said, as long as I like it is all that matters. As for the wall mounting brackets, which do you recommend? Are the cheaper universal ones not worth it? I won't be wall-mounting for several months, but it would be good to have an idea for right now.

Well, I am not an LCD fan, and like I said, the image quality suffers. However, I compare it to high end plasmas and sets like that, so it's all relative. For the average consumer, the set is fine. You won't get as good of a picture as a higher priced set, but that is the downside to shopping price. I think you'll be fine and you will love it. As for the bracket, I always recommend the Sanus VMPL50, which is a tilting universal bracket. I use it all the time and have recommended it to a few people here. Very easy to use, very sturdy as well. I believe you can get them on Amazon for around $75 or $80 which is even below my cost on them. If you are mounting it yourself and need help pm my and I'll help guide you along.
