Looking For A New TV
I am looking at replacing the TV in our family room. We have a 7 year old Samsung DLP now and it works great but we're going to put it in the basement.
I am looking at one of the following to replace it:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007BG4U70
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0077SBPPM
Amazon.com: LG Electronics 50LN5700 50-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Smart TV: Electronics
Amazon.com: LG Electronics 50LA6200 50-Inch Cinema 3D 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Smart TV and Four Pairs of 3D Glasses: Electronics
I am a fan of the Samsung because of the performance of the DLP we have now. I am trying to keep it around $1000 if not less.
Thanks

Get the first one. Samsung makes a great TV. Not a fan of 3D, but that's personal preference.
My parents have an LG, 55" I think...it's nice, but I prefer my older Sammy (much better picture).

I know you want to keep it at $1000 but I don't know if you looked but the 60in of the first link you posted is on super sale right now and under $1500 which is a steal.

And the basement is Elliott's right now. I'm not getting a 60 inch for the basement.
Plus 1500 is a bit much. Can't afford that.

the 50" F6400 is $1,200 and is this year's model:
The other ones you posted were last year's models. It looks like this F6400 series has all the features as last year's ES6500 series.

I have the ES8000 (one of the 2012 models). The 3-D is pretty cool. Of course, proper 3-D material looks great, but the TV can convert anything to "3-D". It isn't as pronounced as proper 3-D content, but it does it's job. It seems to work well on things like sports where there is a lot of difference in depth. However, with regular shows I prefer watching in 2-D.
My Sony rear projection blew a blub last night. Not going to buy a new one. Have been wanting to buy LED LCD TV. The 50LN5700, is one that I've been looking at online. I think I'm going to get it. But I'm very torn to get their new 55LA7400 line. Wife is telling to go for the one I want, vs. the one I want to settle for.

I've been doing that. I'm pretty much sold on the Samsung based on the reviews and based on the performance of the DLP we have now. I've been looking at the LG as well because they are in all the hotel rooms I stay in and I like the picture.
Any other ones I should be considering? Sharp, Panasonic?

But it's Sony, Samsung and LG, IMO. I've ruled out ever buying another Sony TV product. Because of the BS they were trying to pull when they were number one. Plus Yummy is a Sony drone,
I have a 2012 Panasonic 47" LED also, and the picture quality is really nice on that too! But the Samsung takes it to another level. I don't know about this year, but for the series that my Panasonic is, they only offered it in 47" or 55".
One other bit of advice. I don't know if you were considering getting an extended warranty, but if you are, buy the 3-year Squaretrade warranty through Costco. You don't have to buy the TV from them, and it's only $60 for TVs up to $1,000, or $100 for TVs over $1,000. That's crazy cheap, especially compared to what other retail stores (and even Amazon) charges.

I have a 55" Samsung LCD from 2010, in 2012 the power supply started acting up and the backlight was flashing. Long story short I called them to complain and even though it was out of warranty they sent a tech and fixed it free of charge, so Samsung has kinda won me over on customer service. I don't think you can go wrong with them.
I would also skip on the 3D. And go bigger lol.

Thanks guys, I'm still trying to get used to walking in and seeing that giant beast on the wall. Gonna take some getting used to, it's sad, it's bigger than the 34" I have in my living room
Recently had a Samsung tech tell me that the reason a new F7000 series LED does not support any more than 720p via component is because the cable itself is not capable of passing 1080i/p. Ugh.
As to them fixing your issue, they had two issues with TV's turning off and back on randomly. One was with recent sets, and all it required was a firmware update to fix. The other was an issue with bad capacitors in which a myriad of complaints came in and a class action lawsuit. My guess is your TV fell into one of these two
