LCD or Plasma?
Im looking to buy a new TV for my bedroom. Obviously want a flat panel that i can hang on the wall. The size im looking at is ~46 but still undecided. I want 1080p. Only thing is m not too sure either to go with a plasma or lcd. One of my friends bought a plasma tv when it first came out ~3-4 years ago. and i thought the picture was awesome! but i have no had a chance to directly compare it. What is your opinions?

thanks guy, i asked a few guys at my job and they said that if u have plasma, u cant play video games because if something stays on the screen for too long without moving, it will be burned into the screen. im most likely going to go with the LCD, maybe get a new plasma for my living room
I would say it depends on your viewing environment. If you can control the lighting, plasma. If you have a bright viewing area, LCD. Plasmas tend to reflect more light, making them difficult to see or distracting in bright viewing conditions. In rooms where you can control the lighting, plasmas tend to show better blacks.
Plasma! i have a 50 inch and use it as a pc monitor and all this burn in is crap. i have yet to have burn in. A lot of plasma's has pixel shift built in to fix that issue. i havent had any pixel burns in's and my tv is over a year old. trust me the screen has been on for quite a while sometimes. Also that is the whole point of warranties too. My boss has a lcd and i wouldnt trade my plasma for that crap.
Wow, another plasma vs. lcd thread. Haven't seen one of these before. Why don't you guys do some research for a change before asking here. You would see that it all depends on what your viewing needs are, and not which one is simply better. Pioneer plasma still trumps any lcd I have seen on the market in PQ, and i've seen a lot, in many environments. That doesn't matter though if you have a room with a big giant french door leading into your yard with no shading, and you tend to watch tv during the day. If you want to watch something with fast action, sure you can go with a nice new 120 hz LCD, or maybe a middle of the road plasma boasting 480 hz refresh rate. There is NO answer to which is better, plasma or LCD. It all comes down to you and your needs out of a tv.

I know, but when it comes to electronics things change every six to eight months. There's going to be different answer a lot of the times.
I was looking at them the other day, plasma still looks better in the dark and not as good as LCD in the light. But the LCD's do have better blacks than when I was looking about 12 months or so ago.

I wanted to buy a plasma but it was so heavy for me. I couldn't lift it home. So, I bought a lcd instead. The lcd was like 50 lbs only. I just moved my front seats more to the front and the box fitted nicely in the back seat.
I only have standard cable and I sit close to the lcd, so the picture looks like crap.
Other than that, I am pretty happy with the TV. The new TV is thousand times better than my old junk.

46" is pretty small for a plasma. LCD will be lighter, more energy efficient, and if you are upstairs in the summer, will even give off less heat. Plasmas can be little space heaters.
Picture quality is a personal decision, though I prefer LCD. Deep blacks won't be an issue at all if you get a Samsung within the last 2 years.

In a side-by-side, it's noticeable. But once you get it home, you can't tell. The bottom line is that whichever you choose, you'll be happy once it's in your house.
It depends what your going to be using it for? Gaming, Movies or regular TV? I recently bought a 52' Toshiba Regza (amazing!) & a 47' LG LCD so IMO - LCD for gaming & reg tv. for movies - Plasma. Also, where is it going to be placed? living room, bedroom, basement? all questions you should deal with when you decide to purchase a TV
Nowadays, and unless you're going high end, just get the best bang for the buck. Apparently plasmas don't burn in that much anymore. Apprarently LCD's do color and black better than ever. These threads just dig up hate and draw lines. Your best bet is to just shop online as the usual Circuit City and Best Buy are pretty crappy on pricing. You'll find a deal once in a while but just research hard. If you pay less for your TV, you're helping all of us get a cheaper TV a year from now.

it will be placed in my bedroom. i rarely play video games, maybe ~3 hours a week, so mostly for tv/movies. but on the other hand, im buying a ps3(mostly for the blueray), and i love gta so i will probably end up playing alittle bit more often. my bedroom can be very dark if i close the blinds, which i usually do

I have a LG 42" 720p plasma. It is far from the best on the market, but it has some differences from the newer sets that give it a better image then the newer sets. It is a great picture for what it is, and worth what I paid for it at dealer cost minus rebates. It still will never be a Pioneer.
