So about 5 weeks ago I got a Pioneer Elite pro-930hd.. watching a few hours a day. power bill went from $80/mo average to $120!!!

Anyone here own one? I heard these things eat up current.. but i didn't expect this... Does this look right?

Might not be just the tv... Rates have increased recently (energy costs are up)...

Mine went up from 80 to over 100 recently... No new electrical equiptment here... About the same Kilowatts/hour consumed per month, but the bill went up...

You sure you didn't miss the notice in your bill a couple of months ago about a rate increase ??

Check the maximum rated wattage of your new display, and the old one. Compare.

Also, a plasma's power consumption varies based on contrast/brightness settings and image content. Do you have the new display cranked way up in brightness compared to the old one?

For just a few hours a day - I can't imagine even doubling your display's power consumption should add 30% to your bill...

It does when my bill jumped $60 after my roommates starting having fish tanks in their rooms....

Read your bill and look it up online if possible...they probably have the calculations from your previous bills...and a reason why it could be higher....in fact, SoCal Edison should be just like PG&E....

What the hell you people run? Mines at about $40/month. Even in the hot FL summer with the AC cranked every day my max bill was $87

How big is your house though? Gotta consider that.

I live in a single bedroom apt. and I pay max of $55/month as low as $30.

Your set really isn't drawing all that much. Pioneer doesn't post the power consumption on your set but a comparable 42" NEC draws 270W typical.

Good thing you didn't get a 50". The 50" NEC draws 435W typical. That's one reason I went with a 42".

I haven't notice any real increase in my bill and the TV is on daily from about 8am to 11pm.

I haven't noticed that much of a difference either. In fact, our current bill is lower then the previous month's bill. Generally the plasma is only on for 1-3 hours a day max since it's in our bedroom... so it shouldn't really affect our bill....

the highest I think in the summer I ever hit was 225 or 250. It was hot as hell and the A/C was on all the time.

Thats pretty good for what you have then. And then you have to consider how well your house is insulated and blah blah blah. Many factors. Mines only 775sq.ft

Same here...I count on $400/month for gas and power- it depends on the season-higher power in the summer and higher gas in the winter. 'course we're running that in a 3500 sq ft house. Thank goodness for dual zone and programmable thermostats. Our bills are the same as my in-laws in their 1800 sq ft house that is 50 years old (but w/new HVAC systems).

Oh, for reference, we're generally in the $185/mo range for gas and electric in the winter (although December was $275 for both) in the winter.

In the summer we're usually around the same... maybe a bit less since my wife is always cold and I don't need to crank the A/C....

Having the master on the first floor and an open floor plan helps tremendously. In the winter I only run the first floor unit, and in the summer I only run the second floor unit... so that keeps my costs down also...
