Good HDMI switching receiver?

Thinking about upgrading the ol' Yamaha receiver to something that follows 21st century technology.

What's a decent, relatively inexpensive (if there is such a thing) receiver that offers at least two HDMI inputs and at least 3-4 optical inputs. Not opposed to staying with Yamaha, but perhaps a move over to Denon?

Budget is $1000.

I'm a fan of both Yamaha and Denon. Denon tends to run a bit more expensive than most of the other big-store brands, but their amps tend to run a little cleaner and stronger. Yamaha tends to have a bit better DSP modes.

Onyko is also a good value. The 605/705/805 are all great for the money, although to me, Onkyo's highs seem tinny, which really bugs me.

In that price range, you'd have to go with a low-end Denon.

Do you want the HD audio (TrueHD or DTS HD-MA) decoding? These are on Blu-ray and HD DVD discs.

I don't know??? I am so out of the whole home audio thing that I'm still stuck in the Dolby Digital DTS days. Didn't even know about the above.

While I don't own a HD-DVD or BR player, I suppose at some point I'd make the upgrade. I suppose I'd want to make sure whatever I buy gives me what I need for the future.

+1 for the RXV-1800. I've researched, & that's the 1 I'm getting when I'm ready to upgrade in a few months.

I have a old Yamaha DSP 2092 that's working great for me. But I want to upgrade to new tech like you.

What kind of deal can you get on this?

Sadly, I'm not ready to buy today. Slow down there tiger I'm not even sure I can get a second. My pops can be a stickler.

But like I said, when I'm ready. I'll find out for you.

Nothing, yet. I'd still waiting to find a deal.

That and I'm wondering if I should buy a DSLR first before the receiver.

Give me some time to get my own money together, and then I'll let you know if I can work that deal out. I still cant make any promises, wish i could.
