Dish Network HD **Help with Decision**

Does anyone have the HD package from Dish Network?

If so could you please tell me if you find it worth the extra money or not.

I have their Silver package, so I get all of their HD channels minus the National Geographic channel.

They have the largest selection of HD channels out there. DirecTV will have the capacity for many channels but most of the networks they have signed don't have the capabilities.

However, many of the Dish HD channels are pulled from the old VooM network. They are okay but those 15 or so extra channels seldom play something that interests me. Also, keep in mind that if you do not live in a major city you locals will be in SD unless you use an antenna.

Are those through cable or antenna? Regardless, Dish offers your Dallas stations in HD (lucky ). I find the service worth the money because the cable service here in Gainesville, FL only offers 9 HD channels and the locals I can pickup over an antenna. Your case is a little different seeing as how your locals are available via satellite, cable, and antenna.

Living so close to Dallas I'm sure your local cable company offers a bunch of HD channels. They won't offer as many as Dish but again, many of the VooM network channels have limited programming which I watch occasionally. ESPN(2), Discovery, A&E, HBO, Cinemax, and FoodTV are the channels we mostly watch in HD none of which are their old VooM channels.

To have all of the HD channels Dish offers you will need two of the smaller dishes. One dish will be pointing to the 61.5 degree satellite and the other dish be pointing to the 110 & 119 degree satellites utilizing two LNBs.

The DVR is better than all others used excluding TiVo. TiVo blows all other DVRs out of the water, imo.

Hopefully this helped

This was a little helpful, thank you. I did decide to go with the HD package along with the top 200. I look at it this way I still have cable (via cable internet) in one coaxial and the Air antenna in the other and I can run the Dish through HDMI so I will always have some channel to watch. It isn't like all three will be out at the same time

Also I figure if I decide I don't think the HD pacakage is worth it after the $10 a month for 10 months is up I can just cancel it
