Cracked the Glass on My Plasma Television
Earlier today I tripped and hit my head on my plasma tv. The outer glass is cracked now. Can this be fixed or is the tv ruined and has to be replaced? Its a 42in. Hitachi.

Sorry to hear. That sucks.
From what I understand, if the glass cracks, you might as well buy a new one as the cost to fix it will be as much if not more than the cost to replace it.

Its just the front panel glass, the inside panels are not cracked. The picture still works perfectly fine. So maybe the tv isnt ruined and the front glass can be replaced. But I don't know much about the internal chemistry in these things.

But perhaps you should call Hitachi and ask.

"so and so has a plasma for $1200, good deal"
Take a look at the specs and they are typically on par for a 1995 Dell computer LCD monitor. Vizio is fine, for a low end entry level flat panel tv. To those that have not seen too many flat panels it may look fine. It may even look outstanding. To people with a little more of a trained eye and the difference is immediately noticeable between that set and a higher end set.

The techs came today and looked at the tv, and they said they have to research on how the tv is built. The glass might be molded into to rest of body of the tv, or it could be a separate piece. They are going to call me back to let me know they way its built and could it be fixabe. Im guessing that if the glass is a separate piece, I have a better chance of the tv getting fixed.
