2-way vs 3-way speakers

I never like 3-way speaker.

I have a pair of Infinity Entra 2. Compared to my friend's Klipsch SF-2, the Klipsch (also 2-way) sounds much better than the Entra 2.

Before I picked up the cheapo Entra 2, I was going for the more expensive 3-way Infinity... but I just didn't like how it sounded.

I also had a pair of JBL (also 2-way). My friend liked my JBL so much. So, I gave him my JBL.

Do you guy have any objective reasoning that can help me to understand why I don't like 3-way speaker?

I have no idea why. But... I just don't like the sound coming from a 3-way speaker.

I can't even remember the last time I have even heard a 3 way speaker in a home. They seemed to have gone out of style in favor of 2 way speakers with base ports or 2 way speakers teamed with a sub woofer.

Perhaps its the more complicated crossovers and the accompanying phase shifts at certain frequencies? I have 2-way + sub in my system.

Are you pumping too much bass into the three ways and getting distortion? I have a set of Infinity 2 way towers, and a 12 inch sub for my front speakers and I don't have to have the bass settings high because the sub handles that.

Maybe with your three way speakers, the crossovers are not cutting the bass to the higher range speakers and causing some distortion.

I have never had a 3-way speaker.

but every time I try to listen to a 3-way speaker in the store, I don't like the sound regardless of the brand.
