120" Screen Build

It's been a while since I've posted about my TL here, but I still like to lurk on occasion.

I've finished my home theater (more or less)! It's a 120" screen with velvet borders.

For More Photos and Details of Construction:

Thanks to AVS forum for all the advice and research!

We'll be moving about this time next year, likely to a larger home with an unfinished basement. I'll have to resist temptation until then...

Details? details? Give us a materials list.

One of the houses were looking at has a perfect spot in the basement for a home theater.

@EuRTSX - I'm always willing to help... however to do it all myself from scratch.. I'd probably have to carefully consider that. It was one of the more difficult things I've done (especially because I wanted it to be HUGE and have nice trim, etc.)

@phipark - ps3, wii, pc, panasonic AE3000 projector, yamaha receiver, energy sub, klipsh speakers, fios.

I have the same chairs.. or nearly identical.

Mine are the "Director" chairs from Ashley Furniture.. deep chocolate colored.

Congratulations on realizing one of your dreams! I have the exact same dream (which I'm sure most guys do). I'm settling on a new house this coming week (with an unfinished basement). I know it will probably take a few years too, but I plan on putting my current HT setup in the living room and build a dedicated HT in the basement when I have the money and resources. Enjoy your hard work.

Type Sun,

I see you are here in northern VA, too... good stuff. Hope the closing goes well for you and let me know if you want to get together sometime or need help with your theater project! (I'm in Chantilly, not Alex... need to update profile)

I looked them up online.. nice stuff. The shape is the same but the brand is different... mine are "Best" which sounds so generic... and cupholders in yours are in the arms rather than the wedges and the wedges seem to have little tables or something on them.. interesting. Got pics?

That would be cool. I'm moving to Gainesville, but still not too far away. My plan is to have a plasma in the living room and front projection in the basement.

Looking good. If I may suggest something that really wows people and is relatively easy to do, although the price can add up. I have done a few theaters now that I have integrated Lutron Radio RA systems. With one touch of the button on the URC remote, the system turns on and the lights slowly dim to the off position, as well as have stage lights turn on (under the step up to the second row of seats.) When you press the off button on the remote, the system shuts off and the lights turn on to 50% brightness, so you are not met with a really bright light after watching a movie in a dark room for 2 hours.

Nice! There is a store here called Theatre Extreme that's all about high def home projection; when our 61" DLP dies we're going 110 on the wall w/ the projector on the ceiling in the loft

Very sweet!

We were just at a neighbor's for movie night this past weekend. They have a motorized 120" screen with 7.1 surround, so it was pretty nice. I keep putting off my home-theater and putting the money elsewhere. Bottom line is we just don't watch that many movies. But it's still on my list and I'll get to it one day.

Seeing pics like yours helps keep the fire burning. Sweet setup!!
