WTF?? First winter gas bill after replacing my heater...

Is this even possible? Last year the bill for the month of november was 185$ for natural gas only with 4.8 daily average CCF's used. This years bill (drumroll) 36$, 0.0 daily average CCF's used!! I just called the power company to verify it's correct and not some estimated/prorated amount.

My house is 2000 sq. ft and i had 350$ average gas/electric bills last winter which is why I decided to buy a new high efficiency bryant heater/ac unit. You think my old heater was f'd up or something? It's using the same exact thermostat and thermostat settings...

80 percent efficient, 14 SER, two speed; couldn't get the 90% due to venting issues (they cant vent out the chimney like the 80% and lower units).

What was the average daily temp? Was the previous month's bill an estimate?

nope. nothing from any prior months was deducted. ave daily temp was equal to this month last year; 47 degrees. oh and the average CCF per day for the new heater is 0.6 not 0.0 that was a typo..

im thinking my old heater was just a real sack of shit.

Damn my heater is 17 years old but I probably don't spend enough on gas to break even any time soon. Good to know if/when it does die, the new ones are so much more efficient.

That's amazing. If my parents thought they could save a lot of money on heating they'd replace the 30 y/o heater. We did change the thermostat to a digital one and the heater does not run nearly as much as it used to with the old thermostat. We have it set at 65, but it can be as cold as 61 in different parts of the house.

We'll see next month since this month it is going to be colder.

Damn. I gotta replace my furnace. Last month was $200... February is usually around $400. I didnt thing the efficiency would make that much difference.

Oh indeed it does. My mother had a gas bill of about $200 and her neighbor who had an older heater, her gas bill was $450 and she even had newer windows and better insulation than my mother did.

Ouch. Just got our bill for last month which has been about 15 degrees BELOW normal for the area and it was $114.37. That's for the whole house.... 4500 square feet... b/c we had her family up for Thanksgiving. Normally we just run the downstairs unit so the upcoming months should be even lower.

I do not know the stats of the furnace though but the house is brand new... so that may have a lot to do with it....
