Thanks, guys! I'm very pleased with how it's all turning out so far.

Strongly considering a zip line from the deck down to the campsite we've made at the bottom of the ravine.

We'll probably do a patio eventually, but we've had to pay $10K more than anticipated to bring electricity to the house, so will just seed a lawn for now. The deck will pretty much serve as our outdoor living space.

A pool down the line would be nice, but isn't on our radar right now. Really do want a hot tub down at the top of our rock outcropping.

 

It is unique - most of the glass tile I found was very uniform and almost plastic looking. I love this stuff.

Can't wait to see it finished and grouted. We're using river pebbles for the shower floor.

Our excavator rolled this ~6 ton boulder down the hill to put in the middle of the circular portion of our driveway. We've been asking them to for a couple of months, but there's always been something there in the way. Just a few inches of it were sticking out of the ground where the they had cleared trees for the driveway to run and they ended up having to dig the whole thing out.

Thanks, H! Coming right along. Hit a few snags bringing electricity, but I guess that's the price you pay for a little privacy and putting it back so far off the road.

Our builder keeps reminding us how much time (and money) we could have saved if we'd built up at the top of the hill. Hopefully we'll have it hooked up this week, so they can put the damn floors in!

 

Yeah, sounds like the hiccups you're experiencing D are just the baggage you get when you build a place.

I'm really not. The only thing I'm really stressing at this point, aside from the additional big budget hit (which really - we knew was a possibility), is not getting in by the last week in October. They told us at the end of August they had no doubt we could let our apartment lease go, so hell or high water we're moving out on October 25. The question is moving where?

Maybe with the in-laws for a few weeks. Not the end of the world, but will mean renting more storage and an additional move. With my current health status, I'm not much use. I can literally hardly make it up a flight of steps once, much less repeatedly while carrying boxes. Paying movers twice will suck.

So, trying to stay optimistic that they get it hooked up this week and we move forward quickly.




And, erm, conjugal visits? I know I'm a little fuzzy these days, but did I miss something important? Did HLL take a second wife?

 

Oh! And yes...housewarming party. Yes, yes, yes. Can't wait!

My friend recently finished his house, but went over budget a bit. Ended up selling his boat to fund the extra stuff that he wanted to get done before moving in

 

No worries! I promise to post more pics when it's actually cleaned up. It's significantly more expensive than pressure treated wood, but lasts a lot longer and won't grow mildew, which is an important consideration for us in the shade.


Apparently these rocks sell for $0.55/pound...we'll just sell a couple of boulders and be back on track.

I've been trying to remind him of all the times we had to scrub the back deck of our house when we were growing up.


Every time my aunt and uncle visit from Arkansas they take a load of "glacier rocks" off of our place back with them because they don't have anything like it there (just creek rocks with fossils and grooves cut in them). When people see their house and landscaping decorated with them they flip out and offer him lots of money to bring some back for them I'll admit they do look good though.

Oo, those sound cool! And yeah, just like my mom's husband and our rocks. We rented a dump truck to carry him a boulder last week. They don't have any big rocks on their farm in MD and he LOVES them.

I don't know if they're glacier rocks or not, just what he calls them, but we have like 5 different creeks are varying sizes on our place, so they come in all shapes and sizes. He usually takes the ones he can handle by himself, so nothing huge like that, but they're around. Like I said though, all are covered in what looks like ocean fossils.

 

That is cool! I will bring my dumptruck.

I'm sure there's a market for them, but erosion is already a big problem thanks to our cows, so I don't think selling them all would go over very well...I might let you have some though if the price is right
