When to paint in the rain?

It's been raining almost every 2-3 days. If not, it's kind of cloudy and humidity level is high. That's the normal conditions this time of the year.

I need to paint a wood post in the patio that is peeling off. I noticed some wear a few months ago, but now, with the harsh weather, the paint is coming off fast. The paint is 7 years old. I thought I could wait, but guess wrong now.

I want to protect the wood, or keep the protection by painting it.

I can only tackle this on the weekend, so it's hit or miss based on the weather.

How long do I need to wait for the wood to dry?

Should I just wait till the season is over? And let it be exposed for another 2-3 months?

Advice, please.

TIA

I would wait until the weather calms down, you don't want to be painting wet wood, and you certainly don't want it to start raining while you're in the middle of painting because then the paint will be washed to places you don't want it to be

How can I tell if the wood is dry enough to paint? By touch and appearance?

Wait 2-3 days for wood to dry. Use a good oil based primer first then a good exterior acrylic paint. Shoud last for years.
