what options do i have for heat??

i have a heat pump for a 2 story house. i know it will be expensive to heat in the winter, so that i am prepared for.
i am looking for other alternatives to using just the electric heat pump.
i know the options are a wood stove, pellet stove, and possible adding propane to be the auxillary.
i don't know much about it am want to see what cost effective ways there are to add aux heat source to the house.

i do not have a basement or any brick walls for a stove.

what are my options

Is natural gas or oil heat an option? They are expensive conversions but worth it if you are in it for the long haul. I would imagine that they would also increase the resale value of your home.

in the house i used to live in in NYC, the previous had the boiler.heater change to a central A/C. In my cousins house, since it was expensive for the retrofiting of the central AC, he got his oil heater changed to a natural Gas one, and it saved him alot.
