Walnut (start to finish)

Started with two planks of walnut that were 12`x12"x2". Once we got the wood we took it to our carpenters shop and milled it. I helped the Master Carpenter with the work but his job was very impressive but he has a lot of experience and this was my first time with Walnut.

Pics: I don`t have a pic of the planks of walnut.
Drill hole insert screw and then plug.
Sander was taped to a shop vac to minimize dust. I would say it sucked up approx. 80% of the dust.
Without trim and end caps.
Plugs were made from a plank off the same piece.
Before.

Awesome! I love walnut, by far my favorite wood to work with/have in my house. What sort of finish do you have on there?

Also, and just IMO, I'd have turned all the plugs 90deg from the direction of the grain just to highlight it as a feature (dowel joinery look) rather than trying to hide it as a flaw.

Yes there is. It was in the hallway then we moved it to the basement then instead of the hallway (where it should be) we put it in the center of the big room for ease of access.

I`m not short but even I use a stool to reach everything on top.

See pic 1 there are 2x4`s stacked two and three deep would of needed to still drill pilots to get the screws in, plus I saw the plugs a while back and like it.

Thanks! The plugs came from the same original board but from a different area if that makes sense. It didn`t originate from the hole that was plugged. Turning it a little wouldn`t of hurt but intentionally wanted it to be different since the plugs would show up anyways.

Nice work, I suck with finishing.

Thermo is the first thing I noticed, kind of weird little area but nice to maximize the room with the desk.

The desk was my second option, first of all I wanted to go with the less expensive option with a planter or green area but got the piece of quartz for a good price and the brackets from Amazon.

A little back story on the stairwell. On top were there is now the walnut top of the stairwell extended all the up to the ceiling, thus dividing the kitchen with the living room. That room including the stairwell was ripped down to the studs. The stairwell was rebuilt and new drywall in surrounding area.

This house was a complete remodel, and completely destroyed when it was purchased.

We had an architect draw out plans for the bathrooms and deleting a bedroom (used to be a 4 bedroom house). Other than Architects plans we kind of wing it, talk it out and come up with something that stays with a classic modern theme.
