Door eggshell or satin same thing

Trim Semi gloss

Gives a good contrast. Semi does clean up better, so the aesthetics may not be the primary concern.

I prefer satin finishes. The more glossy finishes show imperfections and rolller marks too much for my taste. And sometimes flat finishes dull the colors a bit.

traditionally, semi-gloss for trim, flat for low traffic walls, and eggshell/satin for high traffic walls (bathrooms/kitchens).

these days though flat painted trim is becoming the norm in newer houses, buildings, restaurants. i ate at davidburke&donatella a few nights back and was impressed by the sheer amount of flat white trim around the place, it was refreshing.

as for walls, i go with flat "Duration" paint on walls. it's by sherwin williams and remains washable despite a really nice sheenless appearance. it's actually more stain resistant than typical semi-gloss.

if i were building a house today, i'd go with flat Duration paint on all walls and probably an eggshell Duration on the trim... if not flat there too.

I'm intrigued by the notion of flat on trim... I'm'll have to keep an eye out for that in the future.

Semi gloss for anything that will keep getting touched by hands.
