Toilet Issues...

I am having some issues with our one shatter, when flushed the water doesn't really swirl and fills up pretty high like it is going to overflow, but once the fill stops the water slowly drains out of the bowl until there is none left at all. I have tried plunging it and using a snake but this has not helped, so I don't think there is an actual paper clog.

I was reading that it might be the vent tube out of the house being clogged, but the other two toilets work fine. I figured that if the vent pipe was clogged all of the toilets would be affected, unless the house has more than one vent pipe, that I don't know.

Any ideas??

might be pertinent information, what is this toilets elevation, relative to those that are functioning correctly? i.e main floor, while others are top floor.

It is on the second floor(hallway), there is another on that floor in the bedroom and one on the first floor. The other two work fine. I was just up in that thing with the snake again but no luck.

Maybe the clog is in pipes further down the toilet... How far down does the snake you're using go?

Each toilet has it's own vent, so it could be the vent. Since the other toilets are working fine, it has to be something specific to that toilet - upstream of where it ties into the main sewer line. Check the roof to see if some birds started nesting in the vent or something else is stuck there.

The snake is at least 3ft long, and it was going in all the way up to the handle, so I figured it was making it all the way to the fat pipe where there shouldn't be any clogs.

3' probably isn't long enough. Should be at least 15'. But you may as well check the vent before getting/renting another snake.

I got the snake from the local hardware store, was only like 10 bucks. I am guessing the only way to check the vent is from up on the roof??

I figured it couldn't be the vent since the other 2 toilets are working fine. Plus there is less than 3 foot of s pipe in the toilet, once it hits the main pipe there wouldn't be a clog in the 4" pipe, so I didn't see any point in getting a longer snake. I pulled the toilet up and what do you know, a nice nest of about 8 q-tips with some paper around it, blocked about 80% of the toilet tube. The wife will not be doing that anymore!!

Nothing but crap, pee and toilet paper ever, ever, ever goes in the toilet. I had to educate every woman in my extended family who enters my bathroom on this. No dental floss, no feminine products, no diapers, no q-tips... Nothing.

Once you find and clean one blockage it becomes very personal...

Glad you found to problem and took care of it. I'll have to more closely monitor what goes down the toilet.

Still, each toilet (should) has it's own vent.

Should make a nice decorative sign with that quote and put it over the toilet!

She was flushing the q-tips she used on the baby cuz the dog was going in the garbage and taking them. I told her to kick the dog in the ass next time, its easier than yanking up the toilet. I had gloves on and grabbed a handful of that wax sealer that is around the ring and told her it was shit and held it up, she almost puked.
