Tile Woes

So we finally got the tile done, pretty happy with the work.. but problem is the tile we used came from two different batches, so each batch looks slightly different. I knew this ahead of time so I don't blame the installer, I didn't think it was really noticable but I told my tile guy to alternate tiles from each box. Anyways, he didn't really do this and there are some areas where if you look really close, you can tell it's two different batches. My wife says its really not noticable unless you really stare at the floor or look for it...it doesnt bother her at all....

being the anal person that I am, I'm pretty fckn pissed and I keep on staring @ the areas that aren't perfect. I'm almost debating on tearing the shit up and re-doing it. But that's not going to fly because of the cost of doing it over. I'll take some pics this afternoon, let me know what you guys think....

Tell the installer to redo it. If you told him to do it, he should have done it the way you wanted him to do it.

Let's see the pics.

I would bet that over time you'll get used to it and you'll forget all about it. Unless it's REALLY bad.

The hardwood is being sanded/stained, etc (2 day process), so I won't be back home until tomorrow... I did peak in yesterday and the wood looks great.. didn't really notice the tile anymore. heh.... pics this weekend. I'll just take some pics of the general area and not point anything out... but it will be hard to tell from just pics.

When I was doing tile, the first thing my boss taught me was to alternate and randomize the tile to prevent this. Where did you find this guy?

And pics of the tile and hardwood, please

Chances are you are being too picky and will likely forget it once everything is done.

I'm suprised that the installer didn't bring it to your attention sooner. I would have thought that if there was a difference in them, he would have known before he started.

I might be too picky, I guess you can't really tell unless you look for it......but I haven't ruled out gutting it all out... my wife though won't let me.... pics are here:

I think it looks fine. It's really only noticable because you pointed it out before I saw the pics.

All the work looks great, can't wait to see the finished pics.

^ you're probably right... and probably not worth gutting out.... I think once things start to get done and finished, I really wont care or notice....

I'm glad you posted this. I'm just finishing up the walls/wainscoting in a new mudroom off our garage. Will be done by tomorrow. Once that's done, I'm going to buy my tile tomorrow and put it in on Wednesday.

Your issue will make me pay extra attention to any shading differences in the tiles and mix them up.

I'm sorry it didn't turn out perfect for you. I'm very anal about things done to my house and if I know something is "out of whack", it will drive me crazy.. Even if it's something nobody else would ever notice.

EDIT - I just looked at your pics. From what I can see, it looks fine. I think it'll only be noticed if you point it out. Even then people will say "where is it?"

I honestly didn't notice anything wrong with the tile except some may be a little lighter than others? I think they look really good though, so I wouldn't worry about it.

should have waited for all the tile to arrive and then mixed up the tiles. We made the same mistake when we laid granite floors in our old house, we got over it with time.

^ I hear ya... lesson learned. It's one of those things that just gets under your skin when you know it could have looked better..... but I really need to let it go since everyone tells me it's not noticable.
