Yeah...Betty and I have a joke about colors...when she met me, I had painted my place like a billion bright colors. (like a true Mexican!). Then she picked a grayish green color that I hated...put it on the walls and was like...WHOAH...that's nice and soothing!

So now, if she picks a color I hate, I go with it...

just a tip for all...

when building and getting a quote, ADD ALLOWANCES....if you dont add allowances and go over it will be included in your home price, but if you add allowances, it helps you get a better discount upfront while negotiating....

we had only very few allowances when we signed the contract and got an overall discount of 6% of the full home price which i feel is very very nice....now we added around 5% of the home price back into the home with all the overages with Appliances and Tiles and Faucets and Carpet and Lighting....if i had this in the allowances in the beginning pushing my home price higher, I would have gotten a bigger break from the builder....

so my would be to add your allowances....even if you dont use all of them, they will be credited back to you

maybe down the line i might actually build my own house....get independent contractors and be the site manager and that will have a 4 car garage and a damn hot tub in my living area

Thanks Morgan...you guys know when you come to the National meet in 2013, you dont have to book a hotel

Thanks man!

My father doesnt even use the 4 car garage for what its for. One spot is for the 5 series, the other is his Tahoe, another for his motorcylce, and the other spot + 1/2 (its an oversize garage) is exercise exuipment Waste of a garage.

My dream garage depends on where Im located and obviously how much money Im rolling in. If Im baller status and living in the desert (where I really want to go), I want a single story house, medium size, with the garage under ground with about 5-6 spots with lifts. But Im about $3.5m away from that

Realistically, I just want a nice three car garage, detached, with a lift.

^^^ I agree...

well the regular 3 car garage comes with ~650sq ft of garage....since we went with a side entry it kinda gave us a bigger garage....its not like a corner of more space but its distributed overall....we got ~740sq ft of space....and since we went with the side entry the wifey has made a strict rule "no car parts in the house" LOL....we will see how long that goes

but eventually....i would like a 3 car attached and a 4 car detached garage.....or if am really ballin' then i would love a 10-12 car underground garage....

in all the garages i would love to have some kind of a lift....but lets see how it goes....am really happy for now as am going from a car port to a 3 car garage.....

That's scary, isn't it? Spending all this money relying on your imagination to tell you how some of the elements will look. It's a huge relief to finally start seeing some of our aesthetic choices installed so we know they look okay. Yours will, too.

True that D....

you pick color of wood floors and cabinets and granite and the wall and the trim and HOPING they will all match....luckily we were given 4 hours of time with an interior design company where 2 beautiful ladies sat down with us and told us "ohh that will look awesome" for practically anything we picked....

i kept saying give us your honest opinion and the reply was "ohh that will look awesome"

Yeah, it's nice that builders who are building an entire community have "design centers" to help. That's been the one mixed blessing about building 100% custom. I'm chasing everything down myself from a million different sources. It allows me endless options, but there's no organization whatsoever.

yup

i actually wanted to take some time off work and manage the build and independently contract people, but wanted to see the process when we build our house first and then build another house down the line....

but i completely understand where you are coming from....i wish those design centers were a tad bit more helpful....

We still have a general contractor - I agree - without knowing the ropes I'd never have tried to subcontract on my own.

Wow! Nice update! That master closet... That's an extra bedroom! KS isn't that far away from FL.

Note to self: Remember to add allowances whenever I'm able to build a home. Thank's for the type Anil.
