So I was bored this weekend...

I always wondered why they built this cubby area in our master bedroom. Figured we could always use more storage.

These are actually 4 separate cabinets. The black hinges are cosmetic. They looked too plain without the hardware. The black strip is a piece of pinstriping. There are your standard Millspride shop cabinets. Funny cause they were a perfect fit height and depth wise. I still need to add the filler piece in the middle, add some moulding underneath, and finish off the top of it to make them look more "built-in".

Yeah I figure we'll store Winter stuff up there (sweaters, sweatshirts...)

Yeah, that is a smarter use of the space... Some people like those cubbies to display what I call dust collectors

It's much more useful the way you have it set up now....

Isn't that where you're supposed to hide the... ahem... toys?

Hmm, I guess that was just supposed to be an oversized plant shelf when they built it? Good idea with the cabinets...

Yeah we thought about putting plants up there. But even with my 8' ladder, I have to reach up to get to it. Ceiling are ~14 feet high at the point.

I couldn't imagine having to leave the ladder in the bedroom although the wife wants me to build one of those library ladders.

That ladder thing is a good idea, but wouldn't you worry about your kids climbing up on it and falling? If you made it so you couldn't take it down that is...

We're not going to have to get to the stuff up there more than once or twice a year so it's not a big deal to go to the garage and bring up the ladder (I need it to change the smoke detector in the MBR).

Oh, okay I thought you meant that it would be like a permanent ladder that stays there (like the one in the pic)

...my bad. Good luck though, looks great!

so how do you clean the mirror on the ceiling?

Tha cabinets look good. You could have used that space for "mood" lighting, candles, incense, etc., too, or even put some greenery there. But storage space being as valuable as it is, I think you have chosen wisely.
