Rug Doctor?
Since there was talk about a scooba....I figured someone on AZ must have used a Rug Doctor right?
You see these stands in supermarkets and stuff
Anyone have any thoughts on it? I only have one bedroom that has carpet and could use a cleaning. I plan on selling soon as well. I don't really want to hire someone just for one bedroom. It seems odd.
Pros? Cons?
The one pro i see is that it's fairly inexpensive!
Thanks in advance.

Inexpensive, easy for the user to take care of the furniture and carpeting the way it should be done and no waiting around for carpet cleaner appointments.
We actually rent one of these every year or two from the local supermarket to clean the whitish-Berber carpeting that we have. After vacuuming, we go over the carpeting using the soap solution first, then again using hot water in the tank-- to really clean the carpeting. If you just go over the carpeting once, it'll loosen and bring the dirt up to the top of the carpet, but won't necessarily pull the dirt into the tank.

Yeehaw
I've used the Rug Doctor probably a dozen times, and have hired professional cleaners about the same. If you just need a general cleaning of your carpet for dust and dirt, Rug Doctor should be fine. If you have stains or the carpet is seriously dirty anywhere, I'd call someone. The Rug Doctor works very well, but not as well as a professional carpet cleaner. The water is not as hot, the suction is not as strong. Carpet companies have much more powerful machinery.
Also once you factor in the cost of the detergent stuff, and the hassle of the Rug Doctor, you might be better of calling someone. I just had my place done (1 bedroom apt) and it was $40.

We have a Bissell carpet cleaner and have been fairly happy with it. If you're going to move to a place with more than one room with carpeting (and if you have pets), it might be wise to just invest in a machine that you can use over many years....it'll pay for itself.

Only problem with this stuff is you are putting soap into your carpet. If you don't get it all up, and you won't, the new wave of dirt sticks to the soap so your carpet gets dirtier faster.

Wow. Now i'm on the fence.
The room is a normal room with a walk in closet. There's not really stains, but there are a few little spots. The issue I have is my big bed in the room. I was going to wait until the weekend to have the husband and a friend move the furniture before using the rug doctor. I found out that it's $21 for 24 hours and that doesn't include the detergent stuff...
It cant be THAT more expensive for professional carpet cleaning right? Yikes.
