Very nice kitchen Osamu. I like the windows above the cabinets, let's in a lot of light. I like the appliances (Viking owner her as well). I also like the tile backsplash, your install did great job from the pics.

Viking makes a couple of optional pieces fo the range you might want to consider. The first is a set of side strips that cover the gap between the range and the counter top and prevent spills from going down the side of the range. Those ranges are heavy and you don't want to have move it if you don't have to (I have the 48" and it weighs 700 lbs). Also they make a kick plate the clips onto the legs. You can then contact your cabinet company and get a strip of veneer to match the cabinets to put over the stainless kickplate (use velcro). This will give it a nice built-in look and keep the dust bunnies from taking up residence.

Enjoy the new kitchen.

My builder sealed the gap between the range and the counter. I'll definitely have to take a look at how the kick plate looks. I think my first accessory will be a griddle plate for the two middle burners.

Amazing kitchen, rise. The high ceilings and windows really open it up. Cabinets and appliances took awesome. Granit great, too, especially with the more detailed edge detail.

Quick question - why you go with both the range oven and wall oven?

great eye! I picked that edge detail & laminated edge because it makes the granite look thicker than it really is.

The range oven is a gas convection oven while the wall oven is electric. Most homes in my area feature two ovens: either separated like mine or two wall ovens stacked). My Viking package was an upgrade over the standard: GE range with microwave/hood and no 2nd oven). I would have preferred a Wolf range though...

In case anyone was interested: The fridge is a Jenn-Air, SS cabinet-depth french-door bottom freezer w/ thick handle option. I'm a fan of french-doors because of the style and the walking-space saved - no huge door to block the walkway.

Rise --- Are there any other full-sized windows (or doors) in the kitchen? What's to the other side of the table?

I just got blinds today; here's a partial tour:

Other side of the nook:

Other side of the kitchen

Laundry/storage leading to the garage (next to the kitchen nook)

New speaker placement. Since I listen to way more music than use the television, better sound is more important to me.

This sounds amazing on it; the new speaker placement helped immensely:

My parents are starting their kitchen renovation. Demo begins Sept. 17th, so the wallpaper has to come down before then. I came home from work this past Wednesday and a wall was missing its paper already.

Here are some "befores":

Stupid busy wallpaper is coming down (previous owners' choice - we just moved in 2 years ago).

The floor that always looks dirty even when it isn't is finally coming out, too.

A sample of the new materials. This is the new cabinet, and one of these two granites will be going in.

Here's dad, starting today's demo.

I can't wait for the new kitchen, but definitely not looking forward to two months of chaos.

Those existing cabinets actually don't look that bad. But I'm sure the new ones will look even better. As for the granite, the one in the second picture looks pretty nice.

And I know what you mean about the floor. Mine is like that now - can't wait to get it replaced.

Rise, where did you get that dining/breakfast set? I've been looking for something like that. (Small table and set of chairs) That would be perfect for me.

I got it at Costco Home in Kirkland, WA. I think it is a test-market store. Costco online sells something similar but way more expensive. The table and 4 chairs at costco home was only $500 or so.

You're right, they're not bad at all, just not my parents' style. The house/kitchen is only 12 years old, so they aren't too beat up or anything. But, my parents are going to sell the house in about 5-6 years, so they want to update the kitchen but still get some use out of it instead of spending all that $$$ for someone else to have a nice new kitchen. Plus, we all hate that floor. My mom wanted hardwood to replace it, but my dad is a walking disaster and would destroy it in a year's time, so it's tile instead.

They are, however, going to try to sell the cabinets and all the appliances, so if anyone is interested, let me know. Obviously, the easiest thing would be local pickup (we're in NJ), as I'd have no idea how to ship this stuff. Everything is in good shape and still working perfectly. All the appliances are black, except the pretty new fridge (2 y/o), which is a bisque color to match the cabinets. The oven is a double wall oven.

Have you tried Pier 1? They have decent stuff sometimes, and have good sales where you can get stuff for cheap. I got my table and chairs there for around $300.

The new house my wife and I just moved into has carpeting on the first floor and I'm in the planning stages of putting in hardwoods. I'm loving those floors you have. Looks to be just what I'd like to get. What can you tell me about them?

^ All I know is that they're Bruce floors. Not sure of the finish or "model" off-hand. We actually had another hardwood floor originally (I think they were Mohawk), but we had moisture problems in our crawl which caused some warping and splitting. Once they finished it we made them upgrade us to a better floor for our troubles, so the whole first floor was replaced.

Not sure what else you're looking for... so feel free to ask.

JB - I notice the overhang on the island opposite the cooktop has no supports underneath - Is this right? It looks like there's more than enough stone on the opposite side to act as a counterweight but still.

It's a work in progress, I bought a foreclosure...

All new...
Appliances, dishwasher, stove, fridge, ventilator...
Pella french inswing doors
Floors refinished, did hardwood in dining room
Kohler Sink

We'll do new counter tops eventually, still need to stain the french doors. Just installed them a couple of weeks ago. Hard to see but the area above the widows lofts up about 20'

Kitchen is huge for us... Lots of cabinet space...

Sorry for the bad lighting in the pics; but better than nothing... It's 8:30am sun is crashing through over exposing and washing out stuff...

^^ Nice job so far! Was the place a mess when you bought it, or was it in decent shape? I've been thinking about maybe considering looking at foreclosures.

Ya, where you see the double french doors was a 17 year old builder grade door that leaked (BAD!). It seeped water into the oak floors and rotted the sub floor. I had to put a new sub floor in and have new hardwood re-laced into the original.

All the appliances were really shotty and the Oak floors were basically toast.

Surprisingly the counter tops are in excellent shape. Here's some before photos...

Ignore the Lowes relibauilt "blinds in the glass" POS french. I had to return it, it's seals were HORRIBLE. I ended up getting the pella, night and day difference.

Here the floors floors are laced in, I had already redid the subfloor and back door.

After 1st sanding... can't even tell.

Rest of kitchen re-sanded

Dining room was carpeted; I ripped that out and had oak floors put in. Our Entry way had oak floors so I had them lace the floors into the old. The passage way you see on the top left goes into the kitchen.

Finished sanding...

This is final buffing/sanding !. You can really see the fine grain in the wood after the buffing!
