One zone heating for a two story townhouse
I know shit about heating and cooling, but I know that this one zone system isn't cutting it.
Just bought a new townhouse and i just turned the a/c on and it works great, but only on the first floor where the thermostat is. WTF Upstairs is like 10 degrees warmer. Unacceptable!! I can only imagine what I am in store for when I inquire about somehow installing a second zone.
How could anyone make this foolish setup work. there is such a discrepancy in temps between floors its laughable. Maybe even 15 degrees. i smell trouble

well cold air does fall... so just picture you will have the opposite in the winter with all your heat rising to the second floor... but as an alternative you can get window A/C units for the second floor... how many rooms do you have up there???
depending on your sq ft of your second floor, adding in another unit may be more hassle than it is worth... i am talking more about space rather than cost... some HOA (actually all HOA) are usually b!tches when it comes to this kind of thing...

i was thinking similarly, that in the winter it would be a perk.
theres about 800 square feet upstairs, basically 2 huge bedrooms and 2 full baths. there is no way that the HOA would let me put an unsightly AC window unit in. I dont see anyone else with one.

I know someone that bought had a similar set up. While your AC is on try closing all or most of the vents on the first floor so it all goes upstairs.
