We thought Ovenpocalypse would take a least two full days, but the stars aligned for the project and it was done in ONE!
The original oven and cabinet configuration.
Removing the first cabinet. My dad (pictured) was pretty happy with how things were progressing.
Cabinets removed, base for new cabinet configuration installed.
New configuration is taking form.
The new oven!
All in all everything went really well. We had to trade the drawer below the original oven for an additional oven, but that was a sacrifice we were willing to make. There was one trip under the house to re-locate the wiring, which wasn't too difficult (I say that because my dad went under the house ). We cut a hole in the subflooring so I could pass him tools and whatnot. The hole (directly under the oven) was patched and sealed when done. I could not have done this without my dad and am very fortunate to have him.
My next task is to source some tile and baseboard so we can finish.
New layout is nice...you need to paint your ceiling
Yeah. The ceiling and exposed wall need paint. I am thankful the wall is already textured. The adjacent wall is not textured. I do have some paint in the garage left by the previous owners. Though a part of me says to just re-paint it all colors we like (not that it's a bad color) since there really isn't much to paint. Perhaps a color that will complement our soon to be counter tops.

It is very nice. Though it will take some getting used to. At the moment it feels like something is missing, lol. Now there is a place two people can pass each other easily, and plenty of room to work with the oven.
Thanks! It's really making me look forward to the new cooktop and countertops. Though, I did discover some spare tile for the countertops in the kitchen...the wife was not amused.
We roasted some veggies and cubed sweet potato in the convection oven (upper). Everything cooked very evenly. It was awesome!
My only gripe, and a minor one at that, is that there is only one button for the oven lamps. So you either illuminate both ovens or none. When opening an oven door only the lamp for the respective oven is triggered, so it's just when you want light when the doors are closed. Very minor.
I haven't been to any tile stores in person yet, but my Internet research makes me believe it's going to be hard to find this tile. I think I'm going to have to settle for something close, or go with something contrasting and "make a statement". I'm not quite ready to do the floors just yet.
I have 6 complete tiles, so I can fill some of it in. Maybe I'll just have rectangle in front of the new cabinet I'll have to figure something out with. Hmm. I'm open to ideas.
Countertops are scheduled. We are going with Wentwood. They will do demo the week of July 27th and install the following Monday. It'll be a tough week, but worth it!
ok, just wanted to make sure it wasn't a typo.. LOL
lol. It would've been sooner if my wife didn't take so long deciding on a style.
The timing is actually good. We're going to have our twins birthday party on the 11th, so I wouldn't want to do it now. I'm doing the backsplash myself (they're doing the demo), so it'll take some time to get that done.
Turns out they will have enough material to do the bar (seen through the pocket door) and the vanity in our half bath (to the left of the bar, not pictured) too. They'll tear those out when they do the kitchen install next week.
Still a work in progress, obviously. I'm still working on getting the cooktop connected. Once it's wired and the ducting is in, the kitchen will be fully functional again. Then we get to tear it apart again in a couple of weeks to do the backsplash. We're picking tile this week. My dad is going to come over and help me do the install.
We've considered staining/painting them, but golden oak is a theme among the entire house (all trim...window sills, baseboard..and doors... is golden oak). It would be a slippery slope unfortunately. My wife likes things to match, so if we changed the cabinet color, we'd need to change everything else. We may do it some day...but not right now. Maybe when the kids are older and it's easier to send them away. #firstworldproblems
Got everything hooked up and working! No leaks or fires yet...
I begrudgingly had to downsize the duct for the cooktop from the installation recommended 6" to 4" because there was simply not enough room, even after cutting the bottom of the cabinet away, to make the bend I needed to make to get it connected to the duct under the house...and I'm not going under the house to move it! Upon further inspection of the old ducting for the original cooktop, it looks like they did the something very similar, but a bit more sneakily. Instead of using all 4" duct and upsizing at the floor, they used 6" straight pieces, but 4" 90's. So, I don't feel so bad.
All that's left at this point is to cut a piece of plywood to replace what I cut away.
