I am pretty sure it is based on fan run time.

I know you purchased it but I loved our EcoBee, especially the Alexa integration. We had a Nest in the main part of the house and an Ecobee (4 maybe) in the master but ended up with a Nest here, simply because it was on clearance for $21 with a free Google mini

Throw in a UV light for your AC unit, super easy install and cleared up the "damp" smell in our handler.

The Ecobee can integrate with IFTTT and Roomba so if your Ecobee thermostat detects that you've left the house then it will turn on the Roomba. Nest currently isn't supported. I'd like that feature, now that I'm working from home the Roomba gets kinda annoying when it's running on it's normal schedule, if it ran automatically when I left the house that'd be awesome.

Which one did you get? You installed it yourself?

I recently switched from Nest to Ecobee 3 Lite. To be honest, the Ecobee integration across multiple platforms was the driving force. The Nest App is garbage and I really don't to integrate Google Home in my house.

The motion/temperature sensors are awesome because you can use them to automate your lights.

One of my Nest Protects has reached the end of life. And I don't really want to spend another $100-120 for a smoke/CO2 detector...it was a nice little experiment when I swapped them all out, but ultimately its a luxury, and way google has crippled nest features has gotten rid of many of the selling points that originally had me buy in to them.

With that said. Google has been slowly destroying Nest. They killed support for the thermostats to "talk" to my ceiling fan which was a huge selling point of the fan, and Nest has been trying to get me to merge my existing account over to my google account for awhile, which I dont want to do. All that coupled with google more lax outlook on privacy has be dumping them. Turns out LADWP has a $125 instant rebate on the ecobee 4. So, I ordered one this morning and I'll switch over. I'll still have 3 Nest Protects that have 5 more years, and when those go I'll replace them as well.

I hate this time of the year. I don't like cold

I would have looked at other options but my dad has had an ecobee and it’s the only one I believe that works in tandem with my big ass fan.

My Nest comes on when the temp drops 2 degrees below the set value.

I'm still using my Nest thermostat. I do get annoyed that they keep prompting me to migrate to a Google account. I just want it to keep doing what it does.

Glad they changed that cause the early versions were 3 degree change to come on and it was one of the reasons I chose to go Ecobee and not Nest at that point.

Sorry I was wrong. It was 2 degree vs 1 degree with Ecobee. Which then creates 4 and 2 degree windows respectively. With the newest Ecobee software you can also adjust this based on home much you prefer energy savings vs maximum comfort level. You can adjust as tight ias +/- 0.5 degree all the way to +/- 2.5 degrees. Nest might have this as well. Glad you mentioned it cause I would not have known it was adjustable now.

My ecobee arrived today. got it installed in a few minutes and its up and running. Definitely more of a learning curve to use, and since its nice and cool where I live I have my thermostat turned off. So, it'll be awhile be it gets a real test.
