Dammit, I almost broke up with the fiance b/c I wanted a honda engine lawn mower. The woman just doesn't understand that a man just has to have his toys. I even said I'd shop estate sales....i.e. garage sales. Biznatch.

Eek... and I like craftman products...

For 200, you're not going to get anything that's decent, but if you bump that up to 300-350, your money will be better spent.

You can get a cheap honda (HRS series starting at 339)...

For $200 Sears is probably your only option.

Lowes and homedepot are other places to check...

Lawnboy 10685, Toro Recycler 20017 are other machines to look at (I think they are both made by toro), but now we're up to about $400...

I'm in the market for one also and have heard great things about the Toro brand, especially their self propelled mowers. Does anyone have any experience with any of their models?

for like 150 you can get a basic push mower, at lowes, hd, sears, walmart, etc., i still use a old ass 3.5 BS 22"side discharge "free" mower that mom gave me 7 years ago after she had it for 5+ years so far i replaced 2 plugs, 2 air filters, and 2 oil changes, still starts everytime.

I have a basic Toro recycler/mower with Personal Pace (powered push).

It's just over 3 years old and still starts on the first pull. No complaints.

I think I got it for like $350 at Home Despot. Look for their lawn & garden sales this time of the year.

This is the reason I rent.

Get a Toro. My dad had one for about 6 years with no problems.

I got a craftsman for ~$350 from Sears.

It is a HONDA though. Has the blade clutch and rwd.

It was a returned item otherwise it would have been $500+

Look for used mowers at Sears and get the extended warranty.

I have this one. Actually, I have last year's model (20031) before they rev'd the model number, but it's essentially the same mower. Worth every penny:
http://www.toro.com/home/mowers/recycler/20041.html

Toro Recycler, Model 20041, 6.75 HP

The personal pace system is awesome... stops when you stop, picks up speed when you go forward and pick up speed - makes the mower feel almost weightless to push. Ho Depot sells them for $399, could be cheaper other places.

Bought the same model last year and it's fantastic, even on fairly steep hills. I was a little leary of the 'personal pace' system at first despite the reviews, but man is it sweet!

I'm not a lawn snob, 'cause I drive a $100 18 y/o tractor to cut the grass (my other tractor is 27 y/o)

I do know that you get what you pay for.... The cheap $200 mower will work (but for how long ??). For 350 you can get a real nice one, and for $600-700 (or so) get an excellent one (like scrib's honda).

I might by a cheap mower from sears if I can find a returned one. I need something to get to the spots in the yard that the tractor can't get too. I'm tired of using the weed wacker to cut grass The only reason I'm considering something cheap, is because I'd only be using it for 10 minutes tops per week. If it was my primary mower, I'd buy something like scribby.
