The fact that it looks crooked would drive me insane.

yea, us too! its gonna have to be redone.
And now for some progress; the new electrical for the lighting was installed. The design is an extension of whats in the living room and should look very nice. Lots of task lighting for over the countertops as well. Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC inspections passed and they started on the drywall yesterday.
Custom cabinets are coming along and will be installed after the hardwoods go in.
Ill have some pics for you later, having a hard time uploading them.

So some more progress...
Drywall is done.. hardwood floors and new electrical panels are going in!
Old floors out and prepped for the new stuff:
One of the new panels:
new hardwoods being threaded in:
Another shot of the new hardwoods:
New main panel:
Apparently the original hardwoods came from Sheridan Arkansas:
After they finish the floors the should start on installing the cabinets and pretty soon the work on the outside of the house will start.
All in all, we have about 6 weeks until its all done!

Floors were installed yesterday... and of course i took some pictures.
They are going to have to sand the new floors down to match the level of the existing floors where they meet up. The floors in the family room, formal living room, dining room, and one of the bedrooms will be refinished as well.
New windows and doors go in around the 23rd..
Im stopping by here in a bit to check on the progress and ill keep y'all posted!

whats with that line going the wrong way? is that a stain that will just get corrected during sanding?
i have never seen a subfloor like that before... looks so weird... i know you are in TX and it doesn't normally get cold, but i would have been inclined to insulate that and put down a sheet of 5/8" ply...

wouldn't that become a squeaky floor overtime?

That is stain, ittl disappear after sanding.

I think there is one squeek in the floors in the hallway, but the 2x4s are held in place by a black tar type adhesive (you can see it in some of the pictures) and the flooring is nailed into those. So in 50+years, only one squeek

Cabinets! (They will be painted white once they are installed)
This is the island which will be stained with white marble on top:
One corner:
Other corner:
This cabinet is to go over the bar:
Pantry(its sitting upsidedown)
Tomorrow the granite and marble which we had shipped from California will come and we are going to confirm that its what we want. Then its off to the fabricator!

so its been about a week since ive posted last...
Cabinets have been installed, and the finishing work on them was done all thats left is for them to be painted. This week crown moulding was installed and they removed the pergola above the deck.
Today they started on the roof:
Three layers of roofing gone...
You can see the original cedar shingles from 1958 in this picture:
Where the plywood is on the roof is an addition, we are thinking mid seventies
New beam in the wall to support the rood extension:
New roof extension:
Stay tuned... New windows are going in in the next few days!

but yes, with the finishes already in this home and they type of kitchen that they want its not. They have lived in this house for 27 years, its paid off, and in one of the most desirable areas in town. Plus, in building a new house it would have to be two stories to have any sort of resale value and with my parents getting older that doesn't make any sense.
back end getting finished up:
and the azaleas have come out:

and im not sure the name of the marble but i dont think its carrera. Its from http://walkerzanger.com/ though
I can find out the name if you are interested.

That white house looks out of place. Someone build a McMansion?

yeppppp... its awful
the house that was there before was super cool, i cant find a good picture of it, but i found this one:
It kinda looked like a boat and was owned by a really nice family. Well this douche bag developer bought it, tore it down, built that white piece of shit, tried to sell it for over a million, and couldn't because its heinous looking and also because the house is built the foundation of the original house.
Some people finally bought it; they are nice enough but their dogs are yappy and their house is obnoxious.

So some more progress has been made. Ive got a bunch of pictures but ill just post the highlights. Painting has started, siding has started going on, more lighting has been added in other rooms, the roofing is finished, windows have gone in, and trim work is being done.
Beam in the new part of the roof has a permanent support:
New trim color (on the left side of the garage) This color will go on the trim and garage doors:
Siding on the garage is sanded, primed and filled:
This is the reflective-type roofing sheeting they used, its supposed to reduce attic temperatures. This should help for those hot Houston summers:
Cabinets primed:
Drawers primed:
Drawers from the island, in various states of finishing:
New windows and doors!
One new window installed:
New siding on the sides of the front door, this will be stained:
Ill have some more pictures up shortly... still waiting on a bunch to upload.

More updates for you guys, things are coming along and its actually starting to look like house!
Windows going in:
Siding Stained:
Trim work under the new roof primed:
New awning type windows:
Patchwork on the deck:
New windows from the inside:
More siding going up and most of the trim work done:
There is some paint work going on inside and some finishing work going on in the kitchen cabinets but nothing to write home about so ill save the bandwidth.
They were putting up the supports for the new pergola when I left a bit ago so maybe that will start to take shape in the next few days.
Floors should start soon (refinishing and matching to the new stuff) as well as the countertops; after that the appliances will go in.
Like always ill try and keep you guys updated!
