My damned pergola
Has anyone here assembled a pergola before? This effing thing is not going together correctly.. Everything is fine until I try to put the final slats on; DRIVING ME CRAZY!!
I have some new parts coming in from the manufacturer to fix a few other issues [short bolt; missing a pre-drill in a post, etc.] but none of that should affect the final assembly... Any thoughts? I'm out of ideas.. I emailed my pics to the company and they're going to have one of the guys call me but I was told there might be a language barrier
The pergola is made from Shorea hardwood from Vietnam, I think the color of the wood and the grain is beautiful so I don't want to get rid of it, but damnit this is annoying! I've got 4 pallets of pavers coming in and this needs to be finished!
These are the pics I sent to the company..
So if anyone has exp. w/ this sort of stuff.. please chime in and give me some input!

Looks like it's a simple matter of the slots in the top slats have the wrong spacing, and you need new ones that are cut correctly.

You can do one of two things:
Either re-drill/adjust the middle splice of the two slotted members (but then you will have a 2"-3" gap at the splice that you would need to fill to make it look nice)
or....respace the "left" side spacing of your cross members to align with the slotted pieces (ie shift them 2-3" each).
Otherwise you have to get a new set of slotted members from the mfg.....which there is a strong chance they will be exactly the same as the ones you have now.

Just get a whole new piece. Looks like it was incorrect right from the factory - no point in forcing it. You paid good money for it, you shouldn't have to modify anything to force it to work for you - it should just be right from the get-go.

Fixed! We ended up unscrewing the first set of slats, then screwing the top ones into it, then drilling new holes for the bottom slats were needed.. Got tired of trying to figure out where we screwed up; i need to put in trenches, compact 6 inches of gravel in a 12x24 area and then lay the 4 pallets of pavers coming soon!
