How in the world did those upper cabinets hold anything with so little bracing? And the stools adjust down, right?

The final looks very nice. I'd personally look at a decorative drop hood to go over the cooktop, but that's just me.

^^^Cochese, actually the cabinets seem to be secured pretty good-I've never had an issue or problem with them. And yes, the stools do adjust down!

I had actually considered a drop hood, but so many people said to leave it open. They were afraid that the drop hood would cut down on the "openness" of the kitchen/dining room. So I decided to not do it-for now. I can always add it later!

Nice!! I can't wait to get my own place so I can start doing stuff to it. I keep looking around my brothers house saying "you know, doing xxxx will give a nice return when you sell the place....".

Hey steve, I am wondering about the tiles used in the shower. I notice you have a suction cup holder attached. Does it stay OK? What kind of tiles are they? I would love to get sandstone looking tiles, but all I have seen are too porous to hold a suction cup, and since I shave in the shower, I need my suction cup mirror.

Stogie, the tiles used in the shower are standard shower tile. So both the tile on the wall and the floor are made specifically for showers, but treated in such a fashion that they are usable in areas that come in contact with water (like the shower). I went to a tile store in in Kansas City that has a lot of different style of tile to choose from, whether you're tiling your bath or a floor in the house. They did have some Sandstone looking tile available.

The suction cup is a hook that holds the squeegie-I use it to squeegy down the tile walls and the glass door. So far, it has stuck to the tile with no problem.

Looks awesome!!

We have expanded our home search to include older homes (built in the late 70's and 80's) which are on one of the lakes, so seeing these is a good insight as to what is possible!

Thanks for the pics!

You're welcome JB! Just get a house that feels good to both of you. And don't see the house for what it is. See the house for what it could be.

Yeah, we usually have good vision. A lot of the houses we're going to look at have been on the market for a while b/c they scare other people away. For us, they excite us b/c of the possibilities. Once we find one that has it all (good bones, great lot, good location), we'll be all over it!!

FYI, I showed my wife your pics and her only word was "AWESOME"

^^^ Hey, thanks! Tell your wife thank you too. I looked for houses for 9 months before I bought this one. I liked the open floorplan! But now, the floorplan is even more open, now that the wall of overhead cabinets has been removed.

Thanks Nokia-I worked really hard to make this all flow. I was kind of proud of myself because I picked everything out myself. Plus, I did all this "to keep the house". So I didn't do this to sell the house-I'm staying here and I wanted to do this so I could enjoy it myself, not to sell it to someone else. A lot of people to these updates in order to sell their house-I'm staying!

JB, unfortunately I do not. I can tell you that the shower was a 3' x 3' enclosure from 1975 (when the house was built) with sliding plexiglass style doors. So it was very tight. That shower wall was moved out one foot, and that has made a huge difference. In the vanity area, there was a built in vanity that was large enough for 2 sinks. But they only put in one sink, so I had it re-piped for 2 sinks. Plus, an extra wall outlet was installed behind the vanity area, so I could plug in things like a cell phone, Sonicare toothbrush, etc-so they don't sit on the counter all the time. Plus, there was a 1/2 wall that separated the vanity area from the bedroom too. That is now gone!

Very nice! I only asked b/c we're seriously pursuing a home that was built in 1974 and the master is actually large for the era, but we're just used to bigger baths =) . So we're trying to get ideas. Thanks for the info!

JB, if you would like more pictures, let me know. I would be happy to take some for you and e-mail them to you. I'm on a Macbook Pro, so if you are too, we could iChat and I could walk the computer around the house so you could see exactly what you want. This is a front to back split style house. I also have Skype, so we could video chat that way as well. Then you could get your wife on too, so she can see it too.

^ Awesome! I definitely appreciate the offer. We'll see what happens with the house first. It's a short sale... so it's going to be a loooooong process . I'm on a PC... so we'd have to go the picture or Skype route.

But yeah, I may take you up on some pics, etc. It's always great to see what others have done since someone may have thought of a way to do something that we may not!

Wow I missed the bathroom pics. Beautiful SB. Must be exciting to take a in there. Love the sinks/vanity.

I've been doing some demo myself in preparation for a remodeled and expanded master bathroom.

House was built in 1983 and true to form, it has a large hall bath and a small master. We have a small master BR closet that backs up to the master bath.

We also have an office off of the master BR that is literally as big as the MBR.
My plan is to build a master BR closet in the office, blow out the wall between the master bath and master BR closet and expand the bath into a nice big master.

I plan to tackle all of the plumbing, electrical and contruction myself. I will have a family friend who is a licensed plumber consult when needed.

Thanks Gr8ness! I can't believe I did it, but I ordered the entire dual sink/vanity online....

Wow brother, the very best of luck with your redesign. I am not good with my hands like that, so I hired out to do this transformation. Now I'm anxious to see how your project turns out.

Update...

My kitchen remodel won 2nd place in the Kansas City NARI awards this year. Plus, NARI Kansas City has a parade of homes each year for their remodelers. The guy that did my kitchen used my house as his model home this year.

Hopefully, he sold a couple of deals from people coming through the house over the weekend.
