The "Mod Bug" has hit me-even at home!

I've got my Type S just about where I want it, so it was time to turn my attention to my house! This house was built in 1975-a lot of it "screamed" 1975, so this summer I did a complete interior remodel/mod. These pictures include before and after shots of the kitchen. I'll download pictures of the Master Bathroom later tonight. But the pictures really speak for themselves.

As a matter of fact, the guy who did the work for me (I went with a cabinet reface instead of completely replacing all the cabinets) has submitted my kitchen for a NARI award (National Association of the Remodeling Industry). These pictures (the "after" pictures) were professionally taken for the award. I designed this myself, so I'm very proud of the final outcome.

All in all, the entire interior of the house has been repainted, the master bath has been completely redesigned, updated fixtures, ceiling fans, stairways, flooring, appliances, etc.....enjoy!

This is the kitchen/dining room "before"

As you can see, the overhead cabinets created a natural barrier between the kitchen and dining room. Now, the "after" pictures (in the same sequential order).

In the kitchen, I had a table with 4 chairs. Since I lost all the cabinet storage overhead, I decided to take out the kitchen table and build a "breakfast bar", that contains storage underneath. Here are the "before" and "after" pictures.

Here's a last overall shot....before and after:

So there you go-some of the guys in the 3G TL Community wanted to see pictures.....

I love home updates. Even the smallest things like paint make a big difference, so it's awesome when you can do big updates like kitchens and baths. We can't wait to do ours some day, too.

Yours is a night and day difference. Nice job.

Beautiful looking kitchen Steven. You have a perfectly working triangle there which most people seem to forget when remodeling a kitchen.

Very nice, we're in the middle of remodeling half of our house as well as adding significant other areas. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Steven, that kitchen looks beautiful!

Did you do the work yourself or have a contractor do it?

If you hired, how did you go about finding someone? I am thinking of doing similar myself.

Also, did you end up on-budget or did you go over? By what percent if you went over?

+1 My kitchen is in desperate need of a remodel.

How much did the cabinet refacing set you back if you don't mind me asking?

Stogie, I hired out for the reface. I went to a Parade of Homes here in KC, but the Parade of Homes was for home improvements/remodeling only. I bid 2 people against each other. This reface company came through much better on all accounts, including price. I was on budget-for the most part. I had them add a couple of things that took my pricing $600 over the original quoted price

Gfaze, I tore out a complete bank of cabinets, refaced others, added cabinets, added the breakfast bar (with storage underneath), new drawers all around, new pull our trays in the lower drawers, new flooring, new granite countertop. Total bill came to $15,000.00.

Thanks Paz-the barstools I ordered on Amazon-I had a $250.00 gift certificate that I won, so that basically paid for the barstools.

And yes, no carbon fiber here boys! I know-you're disappointed.....

WOW that new kitchen looks beautiful! Especially on the breakfast bar, I love that. Can't wait to see pics of the rest!

Stogie, check out Homestars.com if you're looking for a reputable contractor in your area. It's basically a website where people can post reviews, good or bad, about their experiences with home renovation/remodeling companies.

Here is a picture of the Master Bath. The vanity was ordered online. It came complete with what you see in the picture. So the vanity, 2 bowls, faucets and mirrors came together.

Beyond the vanity is the shower that was expanded from a 3'x3' shower to a 4'x3' shower, complete with a tile floor, clear glass shower door, tile wall.
