Master Bathroom Remodel

Recently my parents undertook the last major refreshing of our house which was built in 1994 and, prior to the upgrades, showed it very much. I decided to shoot the before photos on a whim after the contractor missed his start date while my parents were out of town. De-construction began two days after I photographed it.

Before

The builders would write the material to be laid down on the baseboards and over the years, the marker ink they used eventually bled through the vinyl floors, revealing words that were supposed to have been hidden forever.

And since the panoramic mirrors were going to go away, I decided to shoot myself in it.

I liked the original better. All dat gold, son!

Nice upgrades. Funny how even a splash of colour on the walls adds so much to a room. And carpet in the original bathroom? Dat shit cray.

Looks great!

When did the writing on the sub-flooring start to show through? I probably would've gone after the builder for that (if I was the original owner).

Nice results!

And I agree with Taco regarding the carpeting - how or why would people put carpeting in wet areas??

Looks good, I like the frameless shower.

Every house I was looking at had carpet in the master bathrooms too. I'm like WTH was that a thing to do back in the 90's. Of course that would be ripped out.

I didn't even notice the carpet, that's crazy. The bleed through seems almost impossible, I would be pissed but the remodel is incredible.

Looks great.

I can't believe the marker bled through the vinyl tile like that.

Huge improvement! I did a double take on the carpet. As I was scrolling, I was like "did I just see carpet"? Went back up...yep, I did . Reminds me I need a new shower door and hardware on the tub.

Thanks, everybody! It's great to have all the construction over with.

I think it first started showing in my bathroom around 2002 or so. My mom accused me of writing on the floor because it couldn't yet be read...it was just faint pink lines with hot spots where the marker was set down and lifted up. As time went on it became more and more visible until it became legible and finally, VERY obvious.

Not sure when the house was out of warranty but we bought it in 1997. It was built in 1994.

Depends on the builder, but believe most warranty for a year. Mod course ifnhenisnstill building out the neighborhood, you might have some extra time or leverage. Congrats again!

Big improvement.

I'm reminded of when my parents remodeled their bathroom in the 90s and put in the gold faucets, etc. Stayed that way until 2006...

My parents primary house was built in 1996 and the master bath is carpeted. In fact I think their carpet is the same as in the before pictures.

Their vacation home was built in the early 80's and had dark brown shag carpet in BOTH of its bathrooms . My parents ripped it out of the bathroom that's used the most and put down bamboo flooring. They have yet to address the other bathroom. It's nasty.

Our previous house was built in 1990, remodeled it in 2010.

So. Much. Brass.. so much. And white walls everywhere. And carpeting in the bathroom?? Yeah, we had that.

Our house had carpeting in the master bath as well. We had the keys for less than two hours and it was already ripped out

When we moved in all the inside lights were brass, the outside lights were brass, the house numbers were brass, the door hardware was brass (and most still is) and the kitchen was a symphony of white; fridge, ovens, microwave, sink, sink faucet, cooktop, and so on. That got rectified a few years ago.

Ditto. And now we have a totally new house to redo

Though to be fair, the older farmhouse/bungalow with craftsman interior ages far far better IMO. 90's blah styling FTL.

Wow night and day. Wonderful transformation, I've been wanting to remodel my master but part of me just doesn't want to spend the time and money to remodel it. It's not terribly old though, built in 2007.

Nice remodel!

Love that shower.

Andrew, PLEASE tell me you already have the non-permanent marker ready to write a large "Tile" on the tile floor in about a month...

Looks great! I love the stone accent tile. Nice remodel. And I second stogie's suggestion. Maybe for next 4/1.

Love the shower door. I think the first time I saw one was in dancer's thread, and I immediately knew what I would do with my master bath when the time comes.

Does the tub have a pipe access panel? If so, would you mind taking pictures of it's construction? Our master bath has a shower/tub combo. We currently have one counter big enough for two vanities (10-12' long) with one sink and another on a different wall big enough to fit a tub. My dream is to remove the smaller counter and use the sink plumbing to put a garden tub in, but I haven't got around the logistics of pipe access. I like how your parents' new tub has the faucets away from the wall, and I could easily route the pipes around or under the tub and put the pipe access on the outside of the tub wall.

It's amazing how just a few hardware changes (gold to chrome faucets for example) changes so much.
