manual defrost fridge

manual defrost fridge

anyone have one of these? The company that rents em out says that they are just like regular refridgerators but the manual defrost one is more energy efficient by around 30% which will save lots of money. Downside is that every six months i gotta let it defrost. sounds pretty simple enough and is just a minor inconvenience for just one day. I was just wondering if there are any other problems that might be associated with having something like this that i might not be aware of right away.

we have a piece-o-shit 3 year old maytag refridgerator that every 3 months or so i have to unplug it to let it defrost because it stops working. Its a pain in the ass having to remove all items and put into something else, Major inconvience... that will also be my last maytag product

Hmmm, if i can remember back in the day we used to have these with all the ice build up. As a kid i used to love smashing that ice. I don't know if I was supposed to do that, but my parents let me. Seemed faster since i chopped up all the ice.

Well I could see why maybe it is more energy efficient, because the auto defrost has to let the temp in the freezer warm up so frost doesn't acumulate, then it has to cool it back down. But how much could you possible save a month? Couple bucks?

I say, meh to that. Plus, you would need another freezer to store your crap while you are letting the other one defrost.

its energy efficien in that the frost that gets built up keeps the freezer cool so it is not totally dependent on energy.

as for saving money, it is $5 a month cheaper to rent, which would save me $50 bux for hte 10 months lease, and the guy that works at the company said something like it saves you 20-30% energy as opposed to your regular refrigerators.

any other pros/cons with manual defrost fridges?
