A little yard work
A little yard work
I hired a excavation company to clean up this gigantic mess I inherited when I bought this property. So the guy shows up w/ a bulldozer and a backhoe, the latter weighing close to 22 tons. I'm thinking he's gonna have to dig halfway to China to bury this old barn that's back there. Instead he digs about 20 feet down, pushes it all in w/ the dozer and is just finishing grading it all out. I'll post pics tomorrow. I'm going to have a much larger lawn to mow now, what the hell did I do????
Yea, it’s a bad thing to bury a large quantity of wood.
The guy should have hauled it away and filled the hole with clean fill.
It will decay and settle an inch or two every year.
Depending on your area, it could attract a huge breeding ground for termites.
When they’re done feasting on the barn for a few years, they’ll make a b-line to your house.
I’m curious to see the pictures.

When my uncle built his house they had random shingles and wood just buried when they graded it and within a few years his whole nice lawn was covered by these fucking sinkholes that made mowing it a nightmare.

I don’t know if the homeowner or the contractor would be liable if something happened in the future.
Lead paint, asbestos, or other contaminates getting into the water supply.

But I don’t know if it’s a good idea to get into an argument with someone who owns a 22 ton dozer.

Seriously, hope there was no lead paint or VCT contained; assume you did not have any tests done so you can claim no specific knowledge.

Hey boyz, I'm here. Tried getting on this a.m. but problems w/ site didn't allow it (anyone else??). Anyways, the work is done, the wood that was left from the barn was so rotted from sitting on the ground for nearly 20 years that it literally crumbled. Most of the stuff that got buried was branches, brush and remnants of logs. That and some big ass pieces of concrete. No asbestos shingles as barn was covered w/ just tar paper when it burned supposedly. I just took a bunch of pics so I'll get some up. Looks great except now my lawn is 200 feet deeper than it was! Guess it could be worse, much worse.

I was picturing some 40 x 40 foot 2-story barn, not some burned out rotting relic.

You should disassemble and move that shed to the back of the yard now. Or get a new one.
It will look out of place in the “middle” if you plant grass behind it.
I know what you mean about cutting lots of grass.
I just “reclaimed” about 2,500 sq ft of brush behind where my garage sits and planted grass last weekend.
All that work to clear it and now I’ll have more work to cut it every week.
But it should look nice though, as will your expanded yard.
Next up: we're having some Amish craftsmen build us a barn. The guy across the street had it done for 10K including materials. He's got a 20x40' barn that was done in 4 days. One of my best friends owns a concrete construction company so I am going to have him pour the foundation/pad. Then I can tear down that POS Sears tin building, though it has served me well. Funny on the wheelbarrow thang, but I use the tractor and trailer instead, it'll haul 1000 pounds no sweat.
Da wife sez no A-zine meets in the backyard though she does want a pool. I can't believe how friggin' huge my yard is gonna be, every time I look back there I just smile.

I used to mow 3.5 acres, it was fun for a while, but sure got tired of the Saturdays on the mower. I had a 6 foot finish mower behind a Kubota L3130, took about 2.5 hours to mow, I wanted a pond real bad!!
then I went and got divorced so had to sell it all....

Chief, You may have to consider upgrading your tractor unless you bought a bigger one then what you needed to cut your "small" yard. Hopefully you have somethign with a deck that's bigger then 42 inches. You're gonna need it with the new "big" yard
See, that's what I'm talking about... I want enough property so I can justify buying a CUT instead of a dinky little LT or GT...
Oh, shit, I keep forgetting I'm not on a tractor Forum
CUT = Compact Utility Tractor
GT = Garden Tractor
LT = Lawn Tractor
My Step-dad has a Kubota 7500 CUT w/ backhoe and FEL (front end loader), mower deck, etc etc...
