Interesting idea. Perhaps could be done, but would require permitting. Nothing we've done to this point has had to be permitted/inspected, etc.

It looks over engineered and strong as heck, just an idea...maybe a couple of brackets to make it pass inspection. I'm sure your neighbors would like to look up and see your nutsack drinking your coffee in your robe in the mornings on your deck.
Plus, all the "hey guy's I got a pretty big deck" jokes you can make.
