Kitchen Sink Replacement

The wifey says that now that we have stainless appliances, the white enameled two basin drop in sink has to go...

Anyone have a stainless single basin? Thoughts on scratching, noise, water spots?

We plan on using a rack at the bottom to keep stuff off the bottom.

Needs to be 33x22x9.

This is the one we are considering:

https://www.wayfair.com/dCOR-design-...-DCRN3798.html

It's only 18 gauge, but has the two hole option we wanted for a faucet and soap dispenser.

Here is a different one in 16 gauge, but it only comes in a 4 hole, which means we have to use the base plate for the faucet, and i was hoping to avoid that for aesthetic reasons.

Following, we currently have a stainless 2 basin bottom mount & I'd like to go to a single basin eventually.
No sound or cosmetic issues with ours.

Personally went with this one:
Amazon Amazon

Very high quality stainless steel and they have a sort of acoustic barrier on the bottom so sound is not an issue.

Kraus makes good stuff

I have a soft spot for farmer sinks

Old house had a double bain (SS) I loved it, but, it was an under mount type.
Now that we moved to our new house it has a black double bain and I hate it. I wish they went with single bain stainless.

Following, because i eventually want to switch mine out....

I looked at the Kraus that fits my criteria and they use an extra thick lip around the edge that I didn't want. Since we have to top mount this, I wanted as little elevation as possible.

I did really love the specs, though.

Sounds like their top mount is purposefully designed with that lip

I think it looks good personally

I was gonna recommend the Hahn ones from Costco but they're all undermount

Good luck on the search Stogs!

We installed our big ass single deep basin sink with our kitchen remodel in the past few months. I can take some pics to post if you want.

Scratching is going to happen no matter what. Ours already has scratches and it's literally a couple months old.
Water spots aren't a big deal provided your water softener is working.
Get the thickest gauge possible as it'll have less chance to dent.

We have this one:
Amazon Amazon

I'd imagine they make one that is in the same dimensions and configuration that you want.

The Kraus is the one I posted the pic of above with the 5mm lip.

i don't like top mount sinks because crap always gets in the lip... undermount so you can just wipe things straight into the sink... if you are concerned with scratches on the SS, get the grids that go inside...

Undermount is not an option in this kitchen without $4-6K of new counters.

In my experience, water spots is a problem if you don't dry out the sink after every use. We've actually switched from a stainless basin to enamel.

Maybe the same one can do both? I don't know, mine is definitely undermounted though.

Found it on amazon and I think we are set on this one...
https://www.amazon.com/Stufurhome-NW-3322SO-Stainless-2-Hole-Kitchen/dp/B016022SQU/ref=lp_9347372011_1_5?srs=9347372011&ie=UTF8&qid=1507574012&sr=8-5 https://www.amazon.com/Stufurhome-NW-3322SO-Stainless-2-Hole-Kitchen/dp/B016022SQU/ref=lp_9347372011_1_5?srs=9347372011&ie=UTF8&qid=1507574012&sr=8-5

Probably going to pair it with:

I think it should be pretty easy for me to swap out the plumbing drain lines to go from two drain lines to one.

I replaced out shitty top mounted double basin stainless with a single basin single bowl, under mount.

I understand why you might be doing top mount...but I urge you figure out how to go under mount. Top mount is THE WORST. I fucking hated it.

16 or 18 gauge will be fine. I can't remember but ours is one of those two.

I was going to get a Kraus, but then our contractor provided one. Its by a company called Hahn, and I have the insert grate that helps protect the bottoms, but they'll scratch, its part and parcel of having stainless.

I love the single basin, wish we had one but glad ours is an under mount. I've heard of people converting a drop in to under and found a quick DIY but I doubt it is as easy as they make it out to be and would be super low.

Drain should be a decently easy switch but buy a ton of extra PVC pieces so you don't have to run out in the middle of the install.

Edit - the lip makes the drop in look better IMO.

If you HAVE to get top mount...it won't matter how low the lip is, its going to suck ass. At least that looks stylish.

Well, we currently have a classic white enamel two bowl 7" with a giant lip, and since we have formica counters and I am not dropping cash for quartz right now, we are stuck with another drop in. Having said that, these 1mm lip sinks are really sleek when installed.
