Talking im the man

woke up at 3am to some weird burning smell. noticed it was coming from the duct work in the house. looked in the furnace and it smelled really bad. blower motor for the furnace took a shit on us. googled pricing which came out to $700-$1200 to have an hvac tech come out and rape us.

FUCK THAT!

took pictures of all the wiring / mounting and ripped the part out myself. looked up the part number for the electric motor that went bad.....$200 overnight.

You got lucky! I had to have a guy come out to replace the squirrel cage fan in my ac last year. It took them 2 days to find one, and it was on the other side of the state. When the guy came out to replace it, he discovered that the mounting bracket for the blower motor has 3 mounting points and one of them broke causing the motor and cage to vibrate. There isn't a new mounting bracket to be found anywhere, even from the manufacturer. He had to weld it back together and every few months I have to pull the blower motor and check on it.

sounds like quite the adventure. i have that whole squirrel cage assembly thing removed right now. i was surprised how easy it was to disassemble. i took pics of everything though to make sure i get the leads back in the right spot.

Its cake to disassemble and put back together. I really don't know why they charge that much for something like that. There's no freon involved, no pressurized lines, only 1 electrical connection, well mine's just a plug, other's I've seen actually have separate positive and negative leads. Anyway, glad yours worked out, that's a ton of money you saved. How old is the unit anyway?
