Unhappy I f'd up. Put rock salt on my concrete porch

It looks like ass now. No one ever told me you couldn't do that but I guess it's common knowledge according to everyone i've spoken to since? Somehow I missed that little tidbit of useful knowledge in my 32 years.

Any suggestions for fixing it? I'm thinking of just covering it with slate and brick now. The top layer of concrete is flaking off.

I'm just glad I didn't do it anywhere else. Thank god i'm lazy

Sounds like you'll need to refinish it. Try using one of the sealants mentioned in the link if you reapply concrete.

An epoxy based concrete sealer would work, you can get it done in any color you want too. When I built a new building last year the jackass builders didn't put the ridge cap on the roof and told the concrete dude to poor the floor on a day that had a 90% chance of rain. So I ended up with a 200ft long 4 foot wide mark right down the center of the building - they ended up using that epoxy on the floor and if you didn't know that it happened you wouldn't know. Some of the rain marks were quite deep, I was impressed with the repair.

Its also bad to put rocksalt on pavement, it breaks it down much quicker. In the future use the little round pellets, they are more money but don't harm anything.

How much rock-salt did you have to put down to f it up? Just one shot or over many years?

My small walkway is taking a beating, but it's old. The driveway is going to need replacing eventually too, so I just don't worry about it...

Thanks for the responses. Would an epoxy based sealer still look like concrete? I want the porch to match the driveway/sidewalk. I don't want it to look shiny/painted.
