How much did you spend on furniture?

How much did you spend on your first full set of furniture?

I just got my own 2/2 apartment, and spent about $3k total on a living room couch, dining room set, bedroom set, desk, and tv stand.

Havent spent anything yet, but the g/f and I are buying a place soon and have shopped furniture to fill it. For a 3 bedroom townhouse, with family room, living room, bedrooms, etc...we're probably going to be about $10K...on the conservative side.

Paid close to 3K for my bedroom suit when I still lived with parents
When I bought my house my fiancee's mom gave us an awesome couch and double chair. My parents gave me there old couch for our family room/game room. I bought a like new dining room table/chairs from a freind for $50. Already had the bigscreen tv/entertainment stand and two other 27" tv's before I moved.

So I was lucky and didn't spend much

A lot of the stuff I have was given to me. I'd say I've spent maybe $1,500 on furniture so far. Not much considering how expensive things can get. And yeah...most of the stuff I've purchased is from Ikea, lol.

3k....look in consignment shops, etc.

When I was in college and got my first place I got the best couch EVER from a consignment shop. I was very VERY sad the day I got rid of it.

Furniture is expensive. I spent $5000 just on my bedroom furniture. Luckily I have that and a kitchen table and chairs ($300) from my old apartment. I also just bought a 40 inch LCD ($1500) which is currently used in the basement. Boyfriend and I are house hunting right now and will probably buy stuff in phases to ease the pain a bit.

Depending on what you want, used stuff can be just as good as new stuff.

Yeah, all depends on what you have to fill, how much existing stuff you have, what your style/tastes are.

Some people are ok with whatever, some people want matching quality furniture that will last for life. I have some friends that just spent $18K to fill their dining room, bedroom, and misc little items for the bathrooms (like mirrors). They're having it custom built and that good stuff.

We've found craigslist to be a good place to buy nice furniture. You have to search through tons of listings to find what you want, but can usually get a good deal.
