I always thought HOAs were a ripoff. I'd be mad too if I found out what this lady found out.

I don't like homeowners associations, but oh well.

I get double whacked. I have an HOA AND a CDD fee to pay every month to the tune of about $403 monthly.

A pool would be nice to have, but honestly I'd rather save my money. That way I'll be able to get tickets to the SECCG and watch Auburn beat Florida 3 years in a row

My HOA is 250/yr and includes use of the outdoor pool, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Its also supposed to maintain the "common" grounds, but they only show up maybe once a month if that. I take turns with my neighbor cutting the grass between our yards thats considered common area.

and YES HOA's are a rip off
If I had the choice I would opt out of the HOA since I don't go to the pool or any of that stuff.

The majority of HOA fees around here are $300+ each month. I think that's just nuts. And that's on top of the ridiculous taxes, too.

I paid about $175 a quarter when I lived in Jersey. But they actually did a good job at keeping the place clean and tidy. I couldn't complain.

HoA fee to my building....and one to my community

its $$$

It seems like the problem is that she does not have an HOA, but was paying monthly dues to the local golf club. I guess she didn't read the disclosures or notice the absence of an HOA when she bought the place.
