Home improvement project starting (new pics Page 3)

I'm not sure if this is really "big," but we just hired an interior designer (lol... friend who is in school and needs to build up her portfolio=free). The house is pretty plain right now, so I'm excited to get started. I'll take plenty of pics, but this is what's forthcoming:

Floors
-Carpet to be replaced in all bedrooms with new carpet (currently plush, going for a neutral berber).
- Family room, foyer, living room, formal dining room hardwood floors (install starts this Saturday), about 1200 sq. ft. Going with a nice quality Oak, and will stain to match oak wood trim throughout the house.
-Current Tile in entrance through breakfast area/kitchen to be replaced with stone

Bathrooms
-Three total baths, changing all hardware, tile and redoing walls

Paint
-Repainting entire house

Furniture
-Redoing all furniture in master bedroom, living room, family, foyer, dining room.

Kitchen
-new granite countertops
-all new stainless steel appliances
-new backsplash, etc.
-new hardware
(Have some great oak cabinets that I'm keeping)

A bunch of other misc. stuff like french doors, new closets, trim on mirrors, art, shelving, etc..... stay tuned.

^ it's kinda a joint effort. It's not like one of those design shows where she just shows up with some concepts and then they start working on it the next day. heh. Wish it was that way though.

I would qualify it as big. It's not that you're doing any major projects... but you are doing a lot at once! Can't wait to see pics as it begins/progresses.

That's cool about the designer too. We need to hire one... except we have to pay for ours. So definitely take advantage of the freebie!!

That's a huge project since it's the entire house you're doing. Remember to take lots of pics and update weekly

Sounds like fun.

We had quite a headache w/ our kitchen remodel two years ago - the downside to owning an older home is that not too many corners match up at exactly 90 degrees - fawk!

wow, thats a huge prject, and i'd bet that costs alot. When my parents wanted granite counters, the quoted us like 300 dollars per sq. foot for just some overly granite that ia 1/4 inch thick and goes ontop of the old counter.

2//26/07 Update:

Hardwood Floors:
Hardwood floors done on Saturday, 5 guys removed all the old carpet and installed 1200 sq. ft. in about 7 hours! It's incredible they did it that quickly. I'm really impressed on the quality of the wood and how they cut everything. They still need to sand and stain the wood which I'll have them do AFTER the tile is done.

Counters:
I got the estimate on Saturday, these will be installed in a few weeks. I just need to check out the slab on Wed so I can compare my new tile I picked as well as a cabinet door to see how well they match. We are leaning towards "English Brown" Something like this:

or

Tile:
Tile guy came on Saturday, 750 sq ft of tile to remove and replace (kitchen, foyer, hallway, bathroom, laundry room). Labor, not including tile is 2k (cash). Around 2.50/ sq ft. plus some extra $$$ for the removal which will take maybe 3 days... They will be starting the work tomorrow.

^ Granite on Wed. The hardwood came out great, did you guys notice what I meant about the tile? I guess its not that noticable, and not worth redoing (I tend to over-react).

DUDE!!! the activity on that granite is amazing! good choice, and I was going to say something about the pale yellow stove but you said you are changing it out. I love under mount sinks too bad we didnt do that as well.

The little sink is by the bar area, away from the kitchen. Since it was already SS, I didn't feel like buying another sink... and it's in such a location, you really don't notice it.

Are you going to do a full backsplash of granite. Or are you going to leave it like that?
