Help! Yellow orange spot appears in carpet after cleaning
Yesterday, we had the carpet cleaned at our home by a local professional carpet steam cleaning company for $75. This morning, while vacuuming the carpet, there was a circular spot, about 1.5’ in diameter, which has turned completely yellow orange. The carpet cleaners denied any responsibility, claiming that it was caused by some foreign material already in the carpet, and the cleaning caused it to expose itself?
It doesn’t bother me that much, as the area is normally covered by a rug, but any ideas on the cause?
Thanks.
PS: My carpet is white, well as white as it can be after 15 yrs of usage. :p

Did you sign a contract with them saying that any chemical or foreign substance already in the carpet won't be cleaned, or may cause harm to your carpet? If not, make them come out and clean that area again. Keep going up the food chain. If they don't come out, tell them you'll report them to the BBB and other areas. If they still refuse, threaten legal action.

i did my carpet cleaning a while back and i think that these spots are caused when to much cleaner is used, and it bleaches it out.

yep - my guess as well - bleach or something similar. MANY years ago I remember dropping a drop of Oxy5 (pimple crap) on the carpet - bright orange stain from it - parents were pissed.
Any chance it is grease from the machine?

Thinking about it, he did pretreat that area so I think there was a bit too much detergent used, which may've caused the spot. But he pretreated other areas as well without problems.
Oh well.

Amazing how we went from a simple carpet stain to a lawsuit.
