Has Anyone Been Scammed by Contractors?

Just curious how long it would take to resolve... a contractor won't return my deposit.

I've heard the Better Business Bureau (BBB) is not that helpful. But there is another service called: www.badbusinessbureau.com or www.ripoffreport.com

I plan to consult with an attorney as well. It's for a small amount of money ($200), but it's the issue of integrity here and I feel violated with these bastards not returning our hard earned money.

Short of hunting these people down and doing unspeaking things... what can I do to get my money bacK?

Any advice/suggestions anyone?

What was the reason for you requesting the return of the deposit?

BBB will do nothing.
Take the contractor to small claims court.

$200? Let it go. Its not worth the effort to get it back. Just file a complaint with the BBB and forget it.

My parents had a contractor take roughly 7.5k (50% up front, the rest when he completed the job which was rebuidling 2 retaining wall and repaving our driveway) from us, started the to rip everything apart, then stopped showing up. They took him to court and won and I don't think they've seen a dime yet. You have to have a special person(which the court gives you a list to choose from) to collect the money.

Part of the problem for my parents may be that this idiot has nothing to his name, but even still, its a major hassle

Well... to keep a long story short, we decided to hold off on the repair work. Also, I was foolish not to check into them in the first place. Apparently, they had a few unsatisfactory records with the BBB.

Here's the latest update, I finally got through to their "office".... which is only open mon.-thurs. from 5pm-8pm. The couple actually sounds decent and said they would follow up and send us a check for the deposit. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Maybe it's just this jackass guy trying to rip us off and not the actual company. The strange thing was, I left three messages, but the couple said they didn't receive any? WTF.

I told them to go fuck themselves and I put a stop on the check, they left me a bunch of threatening voicemails and I called the cops. They walked away with tail between legs.

Lucky, in my case, was delaying giving them the first check until after they got started (and I realized they sucked).

Latest update guys... the crooked chimney guys finally sent my refund back... but kept a "service fee" in the amount of $35. So we got back $165. What a bunch of thieves.

Oh well, at least we got most of it back. I don't want to waste anymore time on them. Bastards took a month to return our money. And they spell my last name in correctly on the check. WTF.

Live and learn. I really want to screw with them and make fake appointment calls and make a complaint with the BBB. But the better side of me says to let it go and forget about these bastards.

Well, although that's a cheap shot... it sounds tempting, if only they were located closer. They're based in Hicksville, NY (Long Island). It's not worth the drive out there.

But maybe if I get a bunch of people call them to set up fake appointments? Let's see how that jackass likes driving around to fake addresses.

(juvenile thoughts eh?)
