Hardwood floor protection during move in

What do you guys recommend to put down to protect the hardwood floors when they come to move in refridgerator etc. Heading out to HD and just wondering what I should look for...Bruce/Armstrong recommends 1/4" plywood...what you guys think or what did you use?

Plywood with carpeting underneath is perfect
pads/prevents scratches and disribute the weight so there is no damage

They used nothing for ours. When they installed the fridge they had some contraption that they wore on their torso... and the fridge "hung" between them and they carried it in that way. The fridge never hit the ground until it was in its location.

FYI, fridge was delivered by Best Buy....

I used old empty boxes, painters blankets and pads.

Shouldnt they be using a dolly anyway? I would think a few old towels would suffice

Yes of course they use a dolly, but its still very heavy. And at some point its got to come off the dolly.

My main concern now (after seeing them move the stuff out of my old house) - how to protect the oak stairs (threads). anything I put on the stairs has to be secure otherwise you are asking for bigger problems. Luckily yesterdays move was smooth - these guys were pretty good...so I am confident they will be just as gentle going into new house, but I am still planning on spending some $$ on protective measures for sure.
