With summer rapidly approaching, I finally want to buy a nice gas grill. I was thinking about a Weber Genesis Gold B. Is ther any other brands I should consider?

I checked out Costco the other day, and they only had some off-brand that I never heard of and it wasn't priced all that great.

The Weber Genesis Gold B is about $600-650, so that's my price range.

$3,000 for a grill is a bit out of my price range.

So I've been thinking about this, too... Is gas really the way to go? Can these be left outside under a cover year-round?

Leaving it outside all yearlong is the reason why I want a all-stainless steel grill.

Vermont Castings is a good grille... If you search here for Weber, you'll get a bunch of threads... Scrib got a Vermont Castings. I got a Weber...

One thing I can say about buying a grille, is DO NOT buy from a box store like Homedepot, Lowes, Sears, etc. Buy from a local dealer. I paid the same price for my weber, but it was put together, delivered, and had stainless steel grilling surfaces instead of the cheaper stuff that the box stores get (cast iron, or porcelain covered steel).

My local appliance guy hooked me up. He only sells Vermont Castings and Webers.

I am getting a Jen-air stainless steel grill. Make sure you get a grill that is stainless steel with brass burners and stainless grills. They will last a long-assed time. The Jen-air is like $700 The cheapest Jen-air model they have at Lowes. Hmmm with the thread above I might have to go check out barbeques galore. I have a natural gas hook up in the patio so I have to pay like $50 more for the fittings and stuff. Maybe I should just get a propane grill. What do ya'll think? Natural gas hook up or propane?

broil master natural gas. No tanks to fill ever just run a line from your hous gas line.

I've had a permanently mounted Weber Genesis (Platinum, I think) outside on my deck for the past five years. It gets covered in the winter and is hooked up to the house gas - no tank refills for me. I replaced the "flavorizer bars" and the grates last year with stainless steel replacements I bought at Home Depot. This year I had to replace the cover; the sun and weather changes had finally made it brittle enough that it tore.

Hooked up to the house is definitely the way to go if you can do it, and IMHO you don't need to go stainless on the outside - spend your money on more flexible cooking abilities - just keep it covered and it'll hold up fine.

I think they make only built-in outdoor grills.

BTW, don't a get Sub-Z. Their reliability is crappy.

Please do not buy a Jen-air...

The ones they sell at Lowes are total crap. They're NOT even made by Jen-air. In fact, Jen-air doesn't even build their grills.

The one at Lowes are built in China and I read the customer service is non-existant.

$700 gets you a NICE Modern Home Product grill (http://www.modernhomeproducts.com). Nothing fancy about the grill, but the company warranties everything for the lifetime of the grill. It's one of the highest rated companies out there.

I got a Vermont Castings, and couldn't be happier.

$700 buys you a hell of a grill. Get a natural gas, have a gas line run and enjoy.

^^ Thanks for the info. My house came with all Jen-Air appliances and thought that they were pretty high quality appliances. I will do my research, thanks.

I have a Stainless Steel Prestige II series w/side burner and I love it.
I’ve had it for about 7-Years now and it still runs like new.

Lifetime warranty too.

Who puts their grill away for the winter?
That’s crazy talk.
I’ve been known to shovel SNOW off the deck so I can get to it and make some steaks in the middle of January.

You can't go wrong with a Weber. I have a Genesis Silver B that I just love. I keep it on my Lanai year around with a cover over it and it handles the weather just fine including the 3 hurricanes we went through last year!

You could probably make an argument either way...

The stainless steel grilling surface is guarranteed for longer (at least with the weber), so it should last longer. It's easier to clean with the BBQ wire brush then cast iron

The cast iron will probably retain heat longer (and probably more evenly).

It's probably a toss up, but I didn't want to worry about the cast iron rusting and needed to be re-seasoned (like a cast iron pan). I don't use my grille that often, so while getting stainless grilles meant something to me, most hardcore grillers would probably prefer the cast iron. I'm lazy, and the stainless requires less maintenance IMHO.

Weber has a a write up about their cast iron grille maintenance...
