Update 23 April 07

I got the walls primed - finally. And picked out the paints at HD...Damn you Ralph Lauren and your colours that nobody else makes. At least it was only 2 gals of that. The other 4 gals are Behr brand.

I've installed another layer of 7/16 OSB on top of the dri-core in an effort to cut down on the squeaks (worked!) and the movement / flex (sorta worked).

I haven't been working as much on this due to the arrival of her (3 months ago today), but she is away in New Brunswick for a week with Mom, so I have the whole house to myself. It feels weird running a skillsaw at 9pm, and not worrying about waking up her:

</pathetic excuse to post pic of daughter>

The main reason I posted is that I have added up all my reciepts and my outstanding purchases, and this came to $10,050. I orginally budgetted $10k, so I am really pleased at how close this came to meeting the target. I had heard horror stories of renos going 50% over budget, so I was happy to have nailed it within a half-a-percent. It might eve be a hair under $10k if I get the toilet / vanity on sale.

More pics up when the sun is up. I am on the home stretch now!

walls primed, ceiling painted.

About the ceiling paint... 1 gal is supposed to do 450 sqft. I had 700 sqft, and required 4 complete gallons to cover properly.

Here's my stairwell ladder. I discovered that after painting the ceiling "Behr Brilliant white" that the stairwell would also have to be done. That was not fun, and I think wall painting will be a big pain too. However, I picked up this ladder at costco years ago, and have never configured it in any other manner than a step ladder. Well, last week it really proved useful for getting into all those high, awkward wall/ceiling/cornery places.

I'm bought Ralph Lauren paint for the rec room / hallway / stairwell, only because CIL and BEHR did not match the green I wanted. That's just tinted primer on the wall right now. I've also added another 7/16 OSB over top of the dricore floor.

Brand new drywall will require more paint than normal. It just sucks it up until it becomes saturated. Project is looking good.

Last couple days were pretty busy. I got 6 gals of colour on the walls: 4 gals of the green in the 15x24 room, and the hallway / stairwell, 1 gal biege for the office, and 1 gal blue-gray for the bathroom. When I get my wideangle lens, I'll try taking pics of the bathroom & office.

After painting, I installed 12 x 50w halogen pot lights. I think I could put one of those in my sleep! Also added all the switchplate covers, and wired the in-wall speaker plates. Also installed the ceiling speakers, which sound pretty good.

Since my 1988 Pioneer "system" only has 2 stereo outputs, I had to braid some speaker wire to get my 6-channel (heh heh) sound. I like the clean look of no speaker wires.

Probably do the floor next.

Label maker!

Beautiful! I love the green too! By the sounds of it, the other paint colours are just as nice, even without the pics!

Thats a sweet color. I love Behr paint, its a shame that they didn't have the color you wanted. Ralph Lauren is basically the same stuff, but overpriced, I can't deny that RL paint does look good though

I have to say, for the extra $10, the RL paint is easily the best I have used. It was true 'one coat' coverage. I had planned on doing 2 coats, since I was going over only 1 coast of primer. I really worked the first coat on thin, and even then, there were only 2 small spots that needed re-doing.

I was against the Behr brand after the ceiling, but the wall colours went on much much better, again, single coat coverage. I would recommend them too.

Bathroom was done in Behr PREMIUM PLUS Interior Eggshell latex, 700E2, Lime Light
Office was done in same brand, 770C2 Belvedere Cream

I think the RL Green was called Hazel Woods, not 100% sure. The closest match in Behr was 420E3 Spring Hill.

The RL paint is an odd green: under the CFL lights, it looks pale blue; in sunlight & halogens, its a cool green (like the pic), while under incadescents, it's got more yellow.

floor is Done! Whew! About 750 Sq ft, my poor knees and back are aching, but I saved $2200 by installing it myself. Wood & 5mm rubber underlay was around $3500, and then around $100 for the rental and staples.

I decided to go with the 1-1/2" staples over gluing. It went in so much faster and the board seams are nice & tight.

After dry fitting the boards, I decided against laying them lengthwise and instead went across the room. The light hitting the boards parallel to their orientation just looked better. I changed the board orientation to lengthwise when I crossed the threshold to the HT room.
